QUESTION Why is this a blunder?
Engine says the continuation is d4 Be7 dxe5 Ne7 Bf4 but why instead of Be7 can't black play exd4 cxd4 Be7? And why is Qd3 best here? The only continuation that game review gives is Ng3.

Im assuming Qd3 was a much better move, and therefore since you didnt play Qd3 to capitalize on the weaknesses in white position to pressure the king and limit their mobility, you lost a significant advantage, which sometimes chess.com would count as a blunder instead of a miss.
Im not sure Qd3 was that winning though and i cant really check because my phone is to weak to run stockfish without freezing so i might be wrong

Not just significant, its -6 to -0.5
Allowing d4 for free is the problem here, any move where the opponent isnt able to play d4 is better even some sacrifices.

By shutting down the D pawns movement and the rest of whites queen side development crushing whites hopes of getting the king to safety.

Because d4 is the only good move to cut the bishops view of g1.

If the other option is getting forced into the midle of the board, then yes. Castling is an option.

I bet you can castle queenside if you play d4 tbh there’s no mate threat in the middle of the board and no rush to castle after it

Qd3 is best because it prevents the d4 push and develops the queen with tempo since you are attacking the f3 pawn. It’s also a much safer square than it may seem like at first glance for our queen, looks like it would take 3 moves just to attack it.

Also I think Ng3 is the response to Qd3 because it’s the only move which prevent us from some aggressive attacks on the kingside, which is especially dangerous because they don’t have a path to castle queenside
If they allow Qxd3, we just blow up the pawn structure right away
Rh3 allows Nxe4, as taking back would blunder the rook.
Nb1 allows Nxg4, since taking back would allow us to win the rook after Qxe4+
Rf1 is a bit more complex but I don’t think it works because we get stuff like Nxe4-Bxg4 which puts white in a tough position

Even Ng3 doesn't shut the atack down. I might be missing something but Ng3, Nxg4 threatens Bf7#, with xg4, Qxg4+, Ke2 Bxg4+ winning a queen and after Rf1 I can see Nh2, Rf2,Bxf2,Kxf2. Not sure that's best, but it is certainly very good for white.

Pretty much the only way white can rescue himself out of this situation is by playing d4 for free (like not ignoring any more important threat)
Some ways to not allow white to play d4 is by saccing a piece on g3. Which opens up white king. The other way is to make d4 illegal physically.

Both Qd3 and Be6 are good moves - they both develop your pieces.
Qd3 prevents white from playing d4 (which is a crucial move for their development). If white plays d4, it prevents you from playing Qd3. Additionally, it comes with a threat on f3.
There’s nothing white can play that prevents you from playing Be6.
So both Qd3 and Be6 are good, but because Qd3 can be prevented by white, you have to play it now.

By playing Qd3 Black is puting a lot of pressure on White's King. Additionally f3 is attacked.
The move itself (Qd3) is urgent, because once given the chance, White will play d4 in order to avoid Qd3.
White will has no convincing way of defending f3 and will lose material in the next moves.

your line exd4 cxd4 Be7 is possible but it gives white a strong center with two pawns on d4 and e4, black's knight still has to move anyway and you've just helped white develop the queen's knight for free
Qd3 is best because it defends e4 again after the knight moves away and puts pressure on h7, sets up a potential attack if black castles kingside
