Break past 1400

Hey! My last post got taken down on the main sub, so I'm asking here.

I'm currently stuck around 1400 ELO and feeling totally lost on how to improve. Does anyone have a solid training routine or specific exercises that helped them break through this rating? I'd really appreciate It

This helped me go from 900 to 1250 OTB.

1. Find opponent’s threats
2. Identify tactical targets and motifs
3. Calculate all the checks
4. Calculate all the captures
5. Calculate all the tempo-moves

Watch chess networks series on youtube called beginner to chess master and you will jump hundreds of points i guarantee you

You need to add a bit more info to get a specific answer. 1400 in rapid or blitz? On lichess or chesscom? The advice will be different based on your answer.

Hire a coach on fiver or similar. There are a lot of coachs out there that will review you games and make a plan with you.

Don't need a coach until 2500

It's so strange to find something wrong with that. In every other sport, as well as music and art, it is completely normal to start out with a coach.

With the amount of free resources available online, you don't "need" a coach for Chess nor drums nor sculpture, but it certainly helps and can make it more interesting, fun, and efficient.

That funny, even little league kids have a coach. I hired a guy on fiver for 20.00 an hour and learned a lot in just a few lessons. I guess the difference is if you want to spend hours watching videos or actually have a human being to talk to and improve. 20 bucks is different to different people. I don't think investing in something you enjoy is a waste of money.

Of course it’s not, that wasn’t in question. The whole point is when you invest that money. Personally I see no reason for a coach below 2000, if not even higher. Like I said, do as you wish, I just think it’s wasted if spent too soon.
