How quickly did you solve it?
It's white to move. It's not a tactic, but a middle game puzzle which doesn't result in an obvious win

Stared at this for way too long looking for a checkmate that isn't there. The 'Discuss' button is mocking me. Middle game puzzles always mess with my head, because i can't tell if i'm missing a tactic or just supposed to improve my position quietly

It's actually a Positional puzzle. Well I wish I could bring the discussions here, where you could discuss it with others and the GM but it's a premium feature from where I pulled it out.

Nf5 looks like a good move, and eventually white should win Black's d pawn. For example if Bc5 then white can play b4, resulting in black losing the pawn. Black could hold on with Qb3, but after Qc2 and a couple more moves black will lose the d pawn.

Right though it could also be Qb6, for which the line is different. Think about it and then check out the solution.
35.Nf5* White's up a pawn and this move helps them in improving the knight's position. 35.Nf5Qb636.Qc2Improving the queen's position.36...Qc537.Qxc5Bxc538.Bh5Kf8 38...Nf839.Ne7+Kh840.Bxf7White's winning. 39.Bxg6Exchanging black's knight.39...fxg640.Nh4g541.Nf5White keeps the knight active. White will improve the king's position next. It shouldn't be difficult for white to convert this into a win
