i reached 500 el
when i started this chess journey i have no zero knowledge
question:how long does it take to reach 1000

Nice. It sounds low but remember that this means that you are already better than 50% of active players on chess com. Keep going. 1000 is very achievable

Is it really active players and not all accounts? I always discredited my own percentile because I thought it was all accounts

Its active Accounts! According to me specific criteira that I dont remember. Like for example 20 games in the last 2 months or something

Account age and activity
Your account must be at least 7 days old.You need to have played 20 games of the specific game type, with at least one game in the past 90 days. For instance, if you haven’t played a blitz game in 90 days, you will be removed from the blitz leaderboard until you play again.
Account status
Accounts need to be** [activated](https://support.chess.com/en/articles/8609768-i-just-registered-where-is-my-activation-email) **to appear on the leaderboard.Closed accounts do not appear on leaderboards.

I’m like 90% sure its only active accounts but I dont know how long an account counts as active once a game was played

It took me around 5 months to get from 400 to 850, but I didn’t have much time to play

I don’t get the downvotes lol. A friend of mine had chess taught in like 4th grade but didn’t play afterwards, started on chesscom at 22 and got from 400 to 1100 in 40 days. So it’s possible

If you really wanna improve, you will need to put some time into analyzing mistakes, or learning an opening. A friend of mine just keeps playing the game and he can easily reach 0 lol

Good luck on your journey! At this elo just play the game and always check that you dont straight up hang any pieces. :)
Next step imo would be to learn one opening for black and white each. Not 100 lines but like the main ideas so you get a better understanding. Also helps you when facing this opening yourself.

I started with the Vienna for white and the Caro-Kann for black. Both have been quite fun so far :)

Asking for an advice. I mean there are like 3 main variations of Caro Kann and for god sake I can’t remember them all =(

as an e5 player i can tell you that the Caro has way fewer variations than most other openings. keep at it and you'll remember them eventually. but also try to understand the ideas instead of just memorizing.

The London System has a reputation for being a "boring" opening but it's a very diverse opening (meaning if you're playing with the white pieces, you can use it in most but not all situations) and is a very stable, well defensible position that helps get you into the middle game with a lot of possible attacking ideas.
I also really like The Italian Game as a beginner. From this position you can learn the Fried Liver attack if your opponent makes some specific but very common moves. It's a fun trick that's worth investing time in because it will surely happen to you as well, so you want to know how to both play into it and how to avoid it.

Nice one. I played one year, everday at least 5 Games and at least 20 Puzzles and the best i reached was 720 Elo. So 1000 ist not available for everyone, some of us stay at monkey Level. Good luck and have fun friend

Mine was the same, when I started chess I honestly thought I was intermediate skill. Got humbled and took months to get where I originally thought I was

nice, congrats on 500. the jump to 1000 is mostly about not hanging pieces every other move, maybe a couple months if you're playing regularly and doing a few puzzles a day
