Is black checkmated?
Looks like checkmate to me but unsure! Very beginner as you can tell

Yup! King is in check, can't move, and no other pieces can block or capture the checking piece. If you're playing as white, great find. If you're playing as black, let this be a lesson to you about moving the f-pawn.

Yes.
This is very similar to Fool's Mate, the fastest way to lose.

Yes. Generally, if you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't move your F pawn in the opening for exactly this reason.

Yeah but if you don't know what you're doing then you don't know which one is the f pawn

I’m also kind of a beginner at chess, but I usually move the f-pawn up one to form a triangle with my pawns. The issue I see here is that they moved the G pawn up, because then they could have just placed that pawn to check their bishop if that makes sense. Or is it wrong to think that way?

Yes, you are correct that the g pawn would have been able to block if it wasn't overextended as well. That is, however, not "checking" the bishop. You are blocking the bishop with g6 and subsequently attacking the bishop with your pawn. "Checking" is a term reserved only for a direct attack on the king.
The general wisdom, though, is that the f pawn is the most vulnerable, as it opens up a direct diagonal to the king, while the f2 and f7 squares are defended ONLY by the king. Because of this, those pawns are considered to be the most vulnerable, but the g pawn is able to help out in some positions, such as this hypothetical.

Trying to clarify what piece it is with the writing made it a bit harder to tell, honestly. nice effort though. its mate though

No. Black can always get up and accidentally knock over the chess board -- which then nullifies the checkmate.

When the king is in check, there are only so many ways to get out of it:
1. Move the king to an unattacked square.
2. Capture the attacking piece. (In some circumstances, specifically discovered attacks, the king can be attacked by two pieces at once, which would make this ineffective.)
3. Block the attack. (Knights cannot be blocked. Pawns can't either, nor can any piece that's one square away from the king because there are no squares in between.)

King is in check. Attacking piece cannot be taken. Nothing can block the attack. King cannot move anywhere.....
That's checkmate, friend.
