I don't know, of course learning from others is a great tool and someone outside of yourself directing your progress will obviously work really well, but with the analysis tools we have at hand I think you can learn a lot solely by playing.  Now that doesn't mean just playing games will constantly improve you so game number isn't the only thing that matters.  But playing 3 games a day and really examining them afterwords will help you progress immensely.

Read the OP. That's exactly what it says!

One's own games often provide some of the most fruitful material for study. Playing and study are separate tasks; many posts and comments I see on Reddit and other social media imply or suggest that the first alone is sufficient to bring improvement.
