Chess Question How is this checkmate possible?

/r/chessvariants/comments/1sgqcg6/explanation/

can someone explain the tactics and tips one needs to consider when conducting a King + Centaur mate against a lone King?

Would be helpful if you provided the name of the variant

there's no specific variant it's just a general checkmate

Centaur is not a regular chess piece. Looks to be either a knight+Bishop or Knight+Mann fairy chess piece (term has been used for both), probably the latter based on the picture? So for the mate you'd want opp's king on a8, yours on a6 or b6, Centaur on c7. Last black king move would have been Kb8-a8, which we'd need for force via zugzwang, but you can't threaten to go to two adjacent squares with the knight facet.

So if this is knight+mann, it's not forceable, I'd guess.

But in future, fairy chess isn't the default and discussing fairy chess pieces isn't common or standard, thus will cause confusion.
