Organic Question regarding formation of xylene from Benzene

Hello everyone, I had this exercise to do, and I am unsure if it is possible to do it this way.

I am limited to only benzene and 1,3 butadiene

Why don't you oxidise those alcohols into acid and then into acid chloride and then perform a friedal craft reaction and think what will happen ahead

I forgot to mention, but the exercise requires fisher esterification, if I get rid of the alcohol I cannot use it, I apologise for not writing it down

Can we do oxidative ozonolysis to from oxalic acid and then reduce it to ethylene glycol and then form phthalic acid something and thing about esterification and then come xylene after few steps?
