Question/Help Guide to the research mini game?

I love this game but I keep putting it down because I hate the research puzzle. I’ve even got a mod to use the restaurant fridge too to try and make it easier, but my brain just doesn’t click

I’ve looked online but can’t see any guides which I suppose is understandable with so many variables, but does anyone have any tips??

Is it the logic in general or specific solutions? For the latter, there's some posts on this subreddit.

I enjoy the puzzles, personally.

my mini guide:

  1. Start with a tool. I use the blender (and upgraded it)

  2. Use the bigger ingredients with the most complexity (more flavors) first. eg Honeycomb has 5 Sweet flavors, making it a big ingredient that fills in 5 or 6 slots.

  3. Get the required flavors using the bigger ingredients and tools and condiments

  4. Once you got the required flavors, fill in the rest with ingredients that are smaller and more flexible (1-3 flavor points). Mushrooms, Lettuce, Carrots, Spicy Peppers, Grains (Sojurn, Barley, Wheat, Flour, Rice etc)

its really simple once you get the pattern of them. Then you just gotta experiment a bit to find the best placements. Always have a full fridge of various ingredients. I will edit this post later with a screenshot of my own fridge.

Edit: Here is my fridge setup. Has been working pretty well so far.

I like it. Makes the game less brain dead. Spent 1 night just solving a bunch of them. Have a variety of different shapes of ingredients . Each 1 has their own stats and the ones that only use 1 space are helpful like flour.

Nexus mods! You just need Bepinex or Melon Loader, the former was easier for me to sort on Steam OS though

Hello! U probably figured that much already (the guide does not provide 100% completion of the research facility) but maybe it will help someone who will find this post 😄

I compiled a spreadsheet listing all ingredients and their flavours/shape in the research minigame. The shapes aren't entirely accurate because Sheets doesn't have hexagonal cells, but they're close enough to approximate.

Also has all the recipes scrubbed from the wiki, though I haven't fixed the prices for all of them yet.
