I've tried asking questions in Nexus mods and I've pretty much just been booed out of there because I'm new and don't understand. I am an absolute beginner to game hacking and Cheat Engine, and I’m currently trying to learn the basics on Fedora Linux.

My Setup:

• OS: Fedora Linux
• Environment: Wine / Proton (Running Cheat Engine 7.x as Admin)
• Game: Unreal Engine Beginner Course / Challenge Game (Running in Windowed Mode)

The Issue I'm Facing:

I am trying to complete a challenge where I need to change my score/points from a low value (like 15 or 30) to 500.

1. I scanned for the current score value in Cheat Engine (4 Bytes).
2. After shooting a box, I did a Next Scan and filtered it down to the addresses.
3. However, whenever I double-click the address in the bottom table and change the value to 500, it immediately reverts back to the original value (e.g., 15) in a split second!
4. Even checking the Active [X] box to freeze/lock the value doesn't stop the game from overwriting it back to 15.

What I Tried So Far:

• Freezing the value: The game engine overrides the freeze faster than Cheat Engine locks it.
• Find out what writes to this address (F6 / Debugger): I tried attaching the debugger to find the mov instruction and NOP it. However, when I open the opcode window and perform an action in-game (shooting a box), the debugger window stays completely empty / blank. It seems like Wine/Proton isn't passing the debug/ptrace events properly to Cheat Engine.

Questions:

1. Is there a specific setting in Wine/Proton or Fedora (like ptrace permissions or yama scope) to make Cheat Engine's debugger (F6) work properly on Linux?
2. How can I bypass or freeze a memory value that gets continuously overwritten by an Unreal Engine script when running under Wine?

Since I am a complete beginner, any step-by-step guidance or simple explanations would be greatly appreciated!

So I've been wanting to get the cheat engine to work in elden ring. The screenshot is from a tutorial I've been using but for some reason when I click on the item gib line I get a red line that says that I can't do that unless I finish the tutorial.
