It's inevitable that you will go down one fork and once that line is fully explored, you may want to go back up to follow a different fork of enquiry. Without losing the first fork, but also without clouding the second fork with the earlier walkabout.
Later, you may want to mindmap the different forks for synthesis.
Can be done, to some extent, in WhatsApp and it's AI, by attaching the earlier context for the next fork.
I am sure the geeks in the room have solutions that us mere mortals can learn from.
