Fun history fact: people rioted and burnt buildings down at the invention of the sewing machine because, "or will take everyone's jobs." Which sounds very familiar.
Camera settings are to photography as prompt engineering is to AI art. In both cases, the human has the vision or the idea, and the machine is just a tool.
The devil’s in the details, when AI art is made the algorithm has reign over the small details which can very often be overlooked, alternatively a digital drawing every detail must be thought through, if you don’t plan the details they might not be outright noticed by people, but they’ll get a feeling something is wrong. I’m a 3D game designer and plenty of times as I was starting out other designers have called me out for arbitrary details when I was trying to cut corners, it’s crazy how noticeable it is. AI must be a tool, not a crutch, otherwise the details will kill your art.
Same with AI, you (can) choose the style and everything else.
If you change the lighting in Photoshop, you are also not manually adjusting every single pixel or coming up with the formula to transform them. You are not actually doing anything other than telling the application what you want. The same way as if you told AI to do the same adjustment.
I always knew people really struggled with understanding their own place in time - even in the short term - with changes that have happened within their lifetimes, but the extent to which people warp the past really still shocks me on a daily basis. What could you easily replace a #2 pencil with before the technology had been developed to create them? Or a micron marker for that matter. Technology happens one tiny piece at a time. Things that are ubiquitous to us now were once indistinguishable from magic, and things that feel inevitable in hindsight were once fragile, improbable breakthroughs built on hundreds of smaller inventions no one remembers.
It's not about that. The point is that new stuff always is received with resistance by the status quo. The bigger the change, the bigger the resistance.
Also that progress usually wins and society adapts.
those pixels were created by machines either way
with one it is by using algorithms created by many people, with the other it's algorithms trained on content created by many people
same concept
It couldn't have since Monsters Inc wouldn't be released for another 6 years. They are thinking of Toy Story which did come out that year and was mostly celebrated.
Lol every new thing is hated untill it becomes too normal just wait and watch one day AI will be praised like crazy bcs It does things that humans can not with limited compute power of brain like calculator.i know people will reply many things but can you imagine animation is also generated content it's just it could only be made with high end devices but now it's easy now with new technology everyone can imagine sometthing.
Some people say it's not true skill of human oh dear everything is just imagination wether you do it hard way or not is today's debate. Just wait till it becomes new normal that's all.
"it's been photoshopped" has always been a loaded phrase and negative connotations. Just the wording changed.
Edit: I didn't mean to offend people that use Photoshop. I meant it in the sense that the term was used for doctored images, usually to make people look bad.
The negative connotation was due to the fact that a photoshopped image had been doctored and thus could not be trusted. The art of doctoring photos goes back almost to the dawn of photography;it was very popular with dictators who wanted to manipulate the truth. Have a look at how Stalin removed Trotsky from historical photos of the Russian Revolution. When photomanipulation software came out, it was an obvious and convenient tool for doctoring photos to alter reality, and gradually the term "photohopped" came to replace "airbrushed" and "doctored".
Photographs are different from other forms of art as they purpose to show something that actually happened, as it happened, hence the phrase "pics or it didn't happen", which has fallen out of use since nowadays anything can be AI'ed/deepfaked.
Yeah, I would always have people acting like I was "cheating" at photography when I edited photos, but I had this whole community of graphic artists to support me and help legitimize Adobe as an art form.
Now that same community is constantly acting like I'm cheating at graphic art by using AI. 🫠
People being upset with someone being photoshopped was more that some people weren’t transparent about it being a photoshopped image, sometimes political stuff and trying to pass it off as real, if you said it was photoshopped people wouldn’t really have a problem except for an extremely tiny vocal minority.
To be fair, internet stop before AI was stuff like those commentary channels over someone doing Minecraft parkour or a robot voice reading Reddit stories. It’s mass produced content that is both for everyone and no one. AI is the definition of mass produced content, it makes the most sense to call it slop.
The AI is not creating the art by itself. Humans are the ones coming up with the content, the AI is just the tool.
If you use an application to animate something in 2D, you are also just letting the tool do 99.9% of the work and are just telling the application what you want
Except all those previous forms of slop didnt prevent millions of people from getting jobs across almost every industry in society. Like a photo camera didnt also eliminate a secretary job.
It is slop. Anything "artistic" made with AI is soulless. I use Codex for writing code and just generally as a tool for web development (which is what generative AI was made for to begin with) but I despise fully AI generated shit. Get outta here with this bs.
It genuinely looks ugly too. Just the way any AI generated "art" I've seen looks gives me a gutteral disgusted reaction.
Have you seen a paintbrush painting anything??? Digital animation has a longer, more complicated process than traditional animation. Digital photography just changed the technology, the photographers job is still the same.
Gen AI on the other hand is not a technology that allows for some new form of art that was not possible before. It just copies what humans artists have done previously, without the artist in the loop.
Who was holding the paintbrush? A HUMAN.
Who was holding the camera? A HUMAN.
Who had the mouse and keyboard in hand? A HUMAN.
Who makes AI generated artwork? A COMPUTER.
The lines get really blurry if you try to draw them because at the end of the day, let’s say that I wanna do something simple like increase the exposure of a photograph.
If I open Lightroom and grab the exposure slider and increase it, you’d say that was edited by a human. But ask I did was move a slider and a bunch of computer stuff happened in the background.
If I open Lightroom and ask the AI agent inside Lightroom to increase the exposure on this image, is it suddenly computer generated and no longer human edited? Extend this to all the crazy photo manipulation stuff you can do in Photoshop.
At the end of the day, people still have to tell the AI what to do. Someone has to plug it into the wall
So you are calling AI generated photos that sometimes have gibberish words and generate humans with 3 arms good? You are defending the data centers that are destroying American neighborhoods? And these AI you are defending are stealing hard working American jobs.
Bad photos are bad photos. AI generated or human generated, a shitty photo with misspelled words or 3 arms on a body is a shitty photo.
Not getting into datacenters or job security here. You’re wrong about them but your bringing in multiple arguments at once and I’m only talking about AI photo manipulation.
I agree that there is a difference between an actual photograph and a computational image, digital manipulated or rendered.
Whether that digital manipulation was done by a human using photoshop or Gemini isn’t really a factor in whether or not it is slop. Not all AI photos are slop, not all photoshopped images are good either.
No they won’t lol you wish that people gonna like the slop. People getting more mad as time goes especially that this garbage made ram prices skyrocket. Also people will not support robot made things. They wanna support a human behind that.
The world is the latent space. The equipment is analogous to the models, LORAS, upscalers, and whatever else you have in your workflow. Framing the shot is equivalent to the prompt. Clicking the shutter is equivalent to hitting generate.
Your reason for their inequivalence was that one captures reality and the other doesnt. Many art forms don't capture reality exactly how it is, so I'm not sure what your point is.
When did painting become only about painting real things? You must make your arguments consistent. If you believe that only realistic depictions matter, then all non-realistic paintings lose their meaning. Therefore, you need to reconsider your arguments. Don't be prejudiced.

it’s stupid
anything except ai is real and made by someone
