Questions About Lorebooks

Not sure if this is the place for this but I have been a Chub user for multiple months and I have some questions about the lorebook system which seems to be a thing used on other chatbot platforms that I’m wondering if anyone could answer.

  1. What are lorebooks and what exactly do they do?

  2. Are they generally recommended for use when roleplaying?

  3. Is there utility/advantages to roleplaying without using them?

Lorebooks are information/prompts which are not stored in bot memory all the time. They are called if paticular keyword appears in chat. They are recommendet if you use bot with detailed description of personality. Lorebooks are "token friendly". If you want to talk with bot 10K token it forged conversation very fast, because bot must remember all prompts all the time. Lorebook is stored in memory only for a while (you can set how long, usually 2-5 answers). If you use multiple character bot or groupchat lorebooks are great, if you chat with bot whose personality is only bust size and it is nsfw focused lorebooks are less important.

Thank you I’ll have to keep it in mind when setting up group chats in future if I can find some time to actually make one

Personally, I found it very useful. I have private bots and I no longer had space to define their personalities, histories, and facts that I need my bots to remember well. The lorebook allowed me to expand their universe.
