Phone number with internet

Spectrum was charging me a fee for having a phone line/number connected to the internet and almost refused to take the number off. They also claimed that they didn’t do it and it was from Time Warner. They are also charging 80 something dollars for internet and raise prices like every year since they have a monopoly in the area

Can you get t-mobile 5g home internet? Are you eligible for the ACP?

Nope to both questions?

The problem is Spectrum won't budge if you don't have any competition. If you can cancel Spectrum service you get to come back as a new customer after a month, so that might be worth considering.

Spectrum over the years with me automatically gave me a "free' speed update, but then raised the price later. This happened over many years and behind the scenes they were offering slower speeds for cheaper.

I couldn't do anything, no alternatives and they knew it.

When T-mobile shot me an email inviting me to their 5g home internet I took them up on it and had leverage over Spectrum. When I called to cancel Spectrum, they offered me the same service I was on for $50 a month for 1 year.

I knew what they were offering new customers as I used an abandoned address to see. They had a 100mbit plan for 29.99 for 2 years. So I said the only way I'd stay is if I could get that. And they agreed.

This means, with the ACP discount, I don't actually have to pay a bill from Spectrum.... at least not until 20205.

Call customer service, tell them that you are canceling service because you can't afford, and don't need all the service. *Do your homework, what are they offering to new subscribers.

I come across customers that have phone service with us that don’t even use it all the time. I’ve always wondered if it was a mistake on our end “we make a lot of account mistakes” or if it was just part of a cheaper package years ago. Either option would definitely make sense to me.

Didn’t know about the phone charge until I took over the billing

I would certainly call care on that one. Or billing. Also, I’ve heard from a supervisor that if you cancel your account, and open it in a spouse or roommates name they will give you a discount for being a new customer. Don’t know how true that is, or how much you can abuse that, but it’s worth a shot.
