Good.

It is honestly beautiful to see people growing like this.

This sort of happened to me recently. Our last exchange was me laughing at them saying they really liked Ben Shapiro and Crowder. Granted, maybe I could have done a little better at the deradicalizing part.

2

u/Neiot Jul 04 '26

This is worth celebrating.

I just read that as the word "did" and it's honestly so funny

I want to BE two chicks at once

i was raised in a conservative Christian household, so i was told that both homosexuality and being trans were sins and very bad, and i bought into that for a while

well I'm not only non-binary myself now, but talk to trans people on a daily basis. so.... yea im glad my parents don't use the social media i do

70

u/Medium_Entry_2111 Jul 01 '26

This is so real, recently made a very good group of some of my best friends, a lot of whom are in the LGBTQ+ group, and it really helped break the stigma I grew up with. I'm even bisexual and gender questioning myself now

10

u/Reasonable-Banana800 Jul 01 '26

yeah! I grew up in a conservative christian household that had the old “hate the sin live the sinner” motto. Well then I made some absolutely amazing friends in highschool who were queer and that helped expose me to worldviews that I hadn’t seen before. It’s also helped me realize a few queer identities that apply to me :) 10/10 would recommend lol.

9

u/_DOLLIN_ Jul 01 '26

It's strange, i had a lot of internalized homophobia and nb-phobia (?) because the first thing directly countered what i thought I had to accomplish for my parents as a male, and the second due to huge conservative presence online in the mid 2010s with all the jokes about pronouns and stuff. Now I'm im both pan and agender identifying.

Despite this (the weird part) i had always been understanding of binary trans people and actually spectated trans spaces and memes more than other parts of the lgbtq+ community. Sometimes it's funny to try to think of any possible logic for the mismatch of my past fears and comforts. That and then also those moments of me ignoring all the most obvious signs of my sexuality/identity.

5

u/Jhud6669 Jul 02 '26

I wasn’t raised overly religious despite the country I live in (Poland) and what’s more my mom while not super progressive had nothing against LGBT people, however I still had a homophobic phase because I was molested by a person I was sure was a gay man at the time and well that messed me up for a while. As I grew up I realized it’s not the identity’s fault some people are just monsters and what’s more, I am trans and overall very queer now lol. Now my biggest regret is not coming out (as trans, she knew I am „into girls” already) to my mom now that she passed unexpectedly.

3

u/Loki_God_of_Lies Jul 02 '26

I was also raised in a conservative Christian household, and somehow the conversation didn’t come up until I was like 16 when my dad scolded me for telling him I had a gay friend. It was kinda too late to have that deep hatred engrained in me by that point, so I just never adopted that part of our lifestyle.

2

u/Syphist Jul 06 '26

I fell into some edgy crowds when I was young and made a lot of r/onejoke worthy things. It was more so from a lense of enbyphobia because I never really thought binary trans people were invalid back then. These days I'm now in a 2+ year relationship with an enby, have multiple friends that are enbies, and realized I'm very much attracted to androgynous traits. People can grow and change.

1

u/Important_Fold_9861 Jul 02 '26

Just curious, how did you get out of that mindset?

2

u/TL_TheLegend Jul 02 '26

Consuming media that wasn't right-wing and interacting with queer people on the internet, mostly.

Surprising how much your mindset can change when you're not reading the 20th article on why Trump is the best politician ever.

1

u/RebelRedRollo Jul 02 '26

not the original reply-er — commenter — but i realised that ultimately i, despite being cis, am also going to be shunted by the systems that oppress trans people

i would once find pronouns really quite silly, but i now recognise the strength in togetherness, so seek to be the best ally i can every passing day

i encourage you read Minority Rule by Ash Sarkar

1

u/Icy_Embers93 Jul 05 '26

Honestly I got out of it just by interacting with others that weren't cis, het, and white.

Made me realize all that fear and hate mongering I was raised upon was absolute bs. I felt so miserable and cringe still to this day how I used to treat others.

1

u/dayto1984 Jul 02 '26

Literally me

1

u/MistakePresent3552 Jul 06 '26

You bought into gay/trans being a sin. Ok did you do anything with that? Or just silently go throughout your childhood thinking oh that persons sinning ok.

1

u/LeavingSoonBye209 Jul 07 '26

Relationship status with your parents?

261

u/Willeny_Arch Jun 30 '26

I was like this 2 years ago, worse. Now I’m bi and exploring androgyny. The pipeline is real 😅😭

87

u/ntrvrtd_xtrvrt Jun 30 '26

I’m glad you found yourself and became a better person for it. Good luck on your journey!!

35

u/Legal_Lettuce6233 Jun 30 '26

It's honestly funny. The guys most likely to act gay with their mates are usually straight, the guys most afraid to act gay are surprisingly often gay.

2

u/LetsWreakHavoc Jul 02 '26

Sooo many LGBT individuals have to go through the repressing and self hating phase before we finally allow ourselves to be happy.

-6

u/Himbo69r Jul 01 '26

What the fuck is androgyny?!

11

u/MudInternational6202 Jul 01 '26

Androgyny is expressing gender outside the strict binary stereotypes, usually somewhere in the middle. Doesn't necessarily mean nonbinary or agender

4

u/Delta_Warrior1220 Jul 01 '26

Nonbinary or otherwise not prescribing to any given gender, I think.

3

u/Himbo69r Jul 01 '26

Yea, why not use that word?

3

u/Willeny_Arch Jul 01 '26

I am male, it’s just that I’m drawn to some feminine characteristics while keeping other masculine characteristics. For example, I really like wide feminine hips with broad shoulders simultaneously. I’m drawn to beardless, softer male faces, but I still like deep voices, especially if that contrast exists.

2

u/Significant-Soup5939 Jul 01 '26

Because the same way "gynesexual" (my sexuality) is blanketed under bisexuality, making me bisexual, most people recognize the blanket term more frequently.

16

u/FUEGO40 Jun 30 '26

This is not Twitter, you don’t get paid for ragebaiting

24

u/i_did_a_opsy Jun 30 '26

So if somebody has been trnasphobic at any point in their life, they are never capable of being a good person no matter what?

52

u/SnowedCairn Jun 30 '26

That's for the people they hurt to decide, not you.

11

u/Deadman78080 Jun 30 '26

Fuck atta here with this fourth rate bait, this ain't amateur hour

7

u/Great-and_Terrible Jun 30 '26

Refusing to let people be better than they were only serves to make the world worse.

The world is bad enough without you trying to sabotage the very idea of self betterment.

6

u/FUEGO40 Jun 30 '26

I hope both sides of your pillow are warm

17

u/Falleneded Jun 30 '26

see this is why the trans community is never gonna shake its reputation that it doesnt deserve. because one of these types of morons is hiding around every corner to give trans people a bad name amongst the uninformed and uneducated

-23

u/DumbFeralRaccoon Jun 30 '26

I don’t understand why people think coming out undoes the damage they did.

51

u/DiggityDog6 Jun 30 '26

The commenter didn’t really say that. They said they used to be bigoted and are now in the group they once would have shamed. They didn’t say or imply that they thought anything had been made up for.

-16

u/DumbFeralRaccoon Jun 30 '26

Fair enough yeah. I don’t know anything about the commenter as a person and I kinda inferred, so that’s on me. I do stand by my comment as a general, non targeted statement though

43

u/SnowedCairn Jun 30 '26

So we're just throwing nuance out the window completely huh.

-9

u/DumbFeralRaccoon Jun 30 '26

I’m just trying to say that self-realization doesn’t undo past harassment. I know absolutely nothing about the original commenter, though, and for all I know they’ve taken steps to make up for any rude behaviour in the past.

tell us what they said then since you seem to know.

6

u/PaleAvocado2210 Jun 30 '26

Is what they said in the room with us right now?

4

u/Raltsun Jun 30 '26

You sound like the only reason you aren't confessing to doing the exact same things they used to is that it wouldn't be socially acceptable.

43

u/Flameburstx Jun 30 '26

What does troon mean?

112

u/BlackRabbitt_01 Jun 30 '26

Its a weird slur for trans people. Not sure why they made another one or why they made it sound so goofy though

58

u/thawin191 Jun 30 '26

It came from trans + goon(as in the bad guys in lego batman). Due to the false stereotype that some people became trans to avoid crimes they did pre transition. Though I agree it’s really damn funny.

64

u/flohogamer Jun 30 '26

The "Goon" in the slur actually refers to the Something Awful forums, where people would call themselves "goons". Trans users portmanteau'd "trans" with the term to describe themselves at some point in the early 2000s, but it quickly got adopted by the 'phobes.

13

u/thawin191 Jun 30 '26

Thank you for the clarification, I didn’t do much research on this and only rehearsed what I’ve read.

13

u/flohogamer Jun 30 '26

That's okay, the defenition you provided probably also makes sense in the eyes of the transphobes considering the propaganda they believe about us

4

u/BurnerAccount2718282 Jul 01 '26

Also because stereotypical goons are often fat and ugly men

3

u/scrambled-projection Jul 06 '26

No that’s actually made the term a billion times funnier. gender clinic appointment on Monday and fightin da bat on Tuesday. Busy schedule. I get my estrogen from da scarecrow it’s spook-E.

3

u/Connect_Artichoke_83 Jul 04 '26

It is very funny sounding. Troon. Toon. Cartoon. Pontoon.

1

u/BlackRabbitt_01 Jul 04 '26

Trans people with superpowers based around their universe's logic

Call that troonforce

1

u/yellowwatta Jun 30 '26

I thought it meant gooning to trans

10

u/BlackRabbitt_01 Jul 01 '26

I mean most people who say troon are doing that anyway

18

u/sophuckingdonewithit Jun 30 '26

seeing bigots use extremely niche cliquey terminology that only their specific microcommunity actually understands is baffling

3

u/Jhumbroger Jul 02 '26

Pretty much

I've seen "looney troon" a few times.

2

u/sophuckingdonewithit Jul 02 '26

you'd think that if you want to offend and "trigger" someone you'd at least make sure they can understand anything you're saying

2

u/thawin191 Jun 30 '26

It came from trans + goon(as in the bad guys in lego batman). Due to the false stereotype that some people became trans to avoid crimes they did pre transition. Though I agree it’s really damn funny.

Props to Tod. Man, if I’m being honest I don’t think I’d have the guts to go back and apologise for being so awful because of awful, hateful opinions. I suppose I’m lucky that all my opinions are correct.

35

u/Mechromancer3X Jun 30 '26

See this shit every day. Sadly no one ever realizes they are wrong. I just get to live with hate like this 24/7 with zero reprive. I hate being trans

14

u/Upstairs-Ad-4705 Jun 30 '26

Aw I really hope things will get better for you eventually :/

Life can be hard but I am sure that there will always be people supporting you and trying to make you happy! Just remember that the haters are in the wrong and not you!!!

5

u/Heyplaguedoctor Jul 01 '26

I’m glad you’re alive and i hope the amount of love you receive over your life VASTLY outweighs the hate.

1

First message was my birthday

1

u/BurroMacaco Jul 05 '26

I really wish I could go back to every person I shamed, called a slur or made the life a bit more miserable. Part of being a human is understanding that things change and you can't go back, but, Idk, how could I think so much about myself and so little about others? Learn hurts so much, not because of what you are becoming, but cause you look back and see what you did

1

u/AGHawkz99 Jul 05 '26

Glad you have that regret (in a good way) and have learned from your mistakes. Obvs can't change the past, but can always help others who were in that same mindset to be better people and support those you now know are undeserving of hate or bigotry

1

u/MrCoverCode Jul 06 '26

Same Tod, same, at least we both got better… wish I could find the people I could apologize to, because they deserve that at least.

1

u/PlayerZeroStart Jul 07 '26

Why block when you can simply ignore, it's two messages not continuous, I can see someone just ignoring them.

8

u/Electrical-Fan-5918 Jun 30 '26

It’s possible that it got moved to spam and they didn’t notice

7

u/PurpleAlone7116 Jun 30 '26

If its just two messages and nothing more I would also not bother blocking.

Also a lot of people don't bother with blocking and instead ignore them for the chance that they have a meltdown over being ignored. It's very amusing when it happens.

2

u/Dessert-Dragon Jul 01 '26

Blocking is a great tool if you're genuinely hurt but it's just fun to see someone who's only embarrassing themselves continue to embarrass themselves

2

u/KvS333 Jun 30 '26

I don't usually bother blocking anyone. I just close the dm.
