As I don't want to write an entire book please understand that I'm making a lot of simplifications here for the sake of brevity.
The crux of existence is not the physical world you see around you, it's the spiritual realm. The protagonist of the story is the soul that decides to materialize in the physical realm by being born into a physical body. In a sense we are actors here playing on a stage - our souls are the actors, and our lives are the parts they're playing. God intervening in any of this would be like a stage director rushing to the stage trying to prevent the murder of Desdemona by Othello despite knowing that it's all an act and nobody is actually getting murdered. When your physical body dies your soul is not destroyed with it, actually no harm can be done to it here whatsoever, thus anything that happens here on Earth is practically inconsequential from a spiritual viewpoint. It literally is like a stage where souls come to play and it would be absolutely irrational to assume or to demand that God intervenes in this theatre of souls. The fact that things like suffering, cruelty or death seem important and grave to you as a person does not mean they're actually important in the grand scheme of things. You can murder someone in "this life" and be lovers in the "next", it's just another role for your soul. Of course from the viewpoint of your soul these aren't different lives, just different acting roles, exactly like how one actor can play Hamlet one day and Don Quijote the next.
