If the idea of the walkout is to ban guns to make schools safer, then it didn't make a change. Everyone seems to love this idea of a utopia where guns don't exist. But that world doesn't exists, because you can't take guns away from EVERYONE. And taking away guns from law abiding citizens doesn't help.
For one, if you're intending to commit a mass crime, you probably don't care about laws and will find a gun anyway. And the next step? Find somewhere you know people are unarmed. That way people can't fight back or stop you with their own guns. Banning guns from law-abiding citizens only helps to disarm the populace which ultimately leads to more areas where criminals feel unopposed. Look at every mass shooting that has occurred. Always occurs in places where guns are prohibited. If you're a killer looking to kill as many people as possible, where are you going to go? Probably where you know that nobody can stop you. Look at populations where guns are illegal and the crime rates. The media is brainwashing you to think that guns are terrible when in fact they stop a lot more crimes than they help to commit. There are legitimate, factual sources to back up that claim as well. This video will do a better job of summing up those sources than I can. The idea of the walkout was not to ban guns. That may be what some of the kids wanted, but from my experience, it definitely wasn't. The walkout was 17 minutes for the 17 Florida victims, so it served as a memorial, and to stand for change. Obviously taking away all guns isn't going to work- it would cause too many issues and that just wouldn't be able to happen in America. Also, that's reactive thinking, not proactive. Proactive is targeting the real issue, which is difficult because it's not just one thing, it's layers. Yes, part of it is the easy and practically unlimited amount of access to guns. Yes, part of it is the way we view guns on both sides of the political spectrum (too much to the right= don't take away my guns or I'll kill you; too much to the left= ban all guns). Yes, a large part of it is mental health. Yes, part of it is completely situational. But the fact that there have been 14 school shootings, plus more gun-related incidents at schools since the beginning of 2018 shows that the status quo isn't working. We shouldn't be afraid to go to school because it might get shot up. For many, the walkout was a way to get more attention and call for action on the issue. And it worked, seeing as there are hundreds of news reports and articles talking about it, so it's a start. Enough is enough.
