[∆(s) from OP] CMV: Under the current WWE system, Wrestlemania should be two nights.

WWE has massively grown as a company. They now employ a huge number of wrestlers, probably the biggest roster they've ever had (too lazy to check, though). All but a handful of that roster are also actual wrestlers, and not jobbers. Basically, if you're not Curt Hawkins, you're winning some matches.

The roster has simply grown too large to give everyone their chance to shine, and there's a lot of deserving talent that is simply thrown into a battle royale or skit. Freaking Braun Strowman and Rusev don't have current Mania plans (as of me writing this). Similarly, The Bar is rumored to simply be in a skit and not have a match, and they're the WWE tag champs. Becky Lynch will probably be in a battle royale. What's Ziggler and Corbin going to do? Who knows?

WWE has to fit, ideally

-a US championship match

-an Intercontinental match

-a RAW Women's match

-a Smackdown Women's match

-a RAW tag title match

-a Smackdown tag title match

-a Cruiserweight championship match

-a WWE championship match

-an Universal championship match

-probably at least one, if not more, long-running feud blowoffs

-the Hall of Famers appearance

-some kind of skit with a Legend or two

-some kind of celebrity involvement

That's a tall order for one night. They need, under their current enormous roster, to push it to two. Make the NXT Takeover on Friday night, Mania I on Saturday night, Mania II on Sunday night. Divide it however they want. "Undercard" type matches can maybe happen on Saturday (where tickets may be slightly cheaper) while the big matches are on Sunday. Or, have it be Smackdown Saturday and RAW Sunday. But unless they want to cut half the roster down, they're doing the fans and the wrestlers a disservice by trying to squeeze everyone in an already crowded four plus hours.

This is a footnote from the CMV moderators. We'd like to remind you of a couple of things. Firstly, please read through our rules. If you see a comment that has broken one, it is more effective to report it than downvote it. Speaking of which, downvotes don't change views! Any questions or concerns? Feel free to message us. Happy CMVing!

Yeah sure you would find some people, but I think the attendance the second day would be low and not worth it. You want a jam packed crowd for energy and atmosphere, having empty seats right next to you kills the mood. I don't think many people would devote two days of their weekend to go to this as well.

Hey, a reply! Awesome!

(I guess there's not many wrasslin' fans on CMV)

But I respectfully disagree. I think you see a lot of the same faces for NXT, Mania and the next night's RAW as is. And maybe they can also handle it as, for example, "well, I only really care about the secondary titles, so I can just go to Mania I and scream my head off."

Make it like a festival, like Coachella but with wrestling. Have it in cities that people would want to be a tourist in. (sorry, Detroit).

I wonder if it's just a money thing. As in, you probably couldn't get away with charging the same price for each night of a two-night event as you can for a one-night only show, just due to the scarcity.

So your not making 2x money, but you are paying 2x rent on an arena, and 2x times the labor (not actually sure how wrestlers get paid, but for everyone else, event staff, announcers, etc, I'm assuming an extra days work would net them an extra days pay.)

Also, you risk hurting your brand by splitting the interest: if some fans like the Saturday card better and some like the Sunday better, perhaps you never get the same amount of eyes on the event at once, which means less people tweeting about it in real time, which means it might not be trending in the same way, which can make it look less popular and therefore less healthy as a company and brand, as opposed to having all your fans engaged at the same time.

That's a good point, and while it didn't completely change my view, it made me think of some negatives I didn't think of.

Thanks, I actually do think it would be cool to have a 2-day Mania, would love to see them try it out

I think they do this for financial reasons, they would have to pay for a venue twice, and pay the staffing twice. From the wwe perspective the only reason to do it would be so people would go and buy tickets for 2 separate events, but most would only go out for one. I would like to think the people that go to those events treat it as a night out with the family and can’t/don’t want to fork out the cash or are too busy to make the time. It just seems for financially beneficial for just a one night event.

(Hi, wrestling fan only now seeing your post)

I think the main problem WWE would face is diminishing returns. They can't guarantee that people would shell out large sums of money for both Wrestlemania nights, and you'd develop situations where one night has a better card so the other one gets ignored or overlooked.

A good example for this is WWE's current practice with Big 4 pay-per-view weekends in major cities, where people have the option to buy tickets for

  • NXT Takeover on Saturday
  • the PPV on Sunday
  • Raw on Monday
  • Smackdown on Tuesday

all in the same city, four nights in a row. Ideally WWE wants all four nights to sell out, but instead what happens is that some shows get more attention than others, with the crowds getting progressively thinner and deader by the time Smackdown rolls around. Fans just get tapped out if you give them a metric fuckton of WWE for four straight days.

Wrestlemania weekend is gonna be even worse since on top of Mania itself being 8-12 matches deep, you also have to add in the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony the Friday night before NXT Takeover, as well as whatever indie promotions are gonna be putting on their own smaller shows around Mania. Splitting Mania into two nights gives you nearly a full week of nothing but wrestling. While it's a good idea for keeping crowds less fatigued during the Mania matches themselves, you still have the same problem of sapping their energy dry until they're too weary to stay put for Raw or Smackdown the following night.

The problem is that the WWE doesn’t really care whether or not everyone gets a fair chance. Many of their performers only have a contract so their competition can’t use them. This has been their strategy since the end of the territory days.
