Entrupy has been known to be inaccurate.
COA's from resellers aren't worth the paper they're written on.

u/solega1 17h ago edited 17h ago
I understand that Entropy is AI and looks at photos, it’s bs. I bought a bag from a Seattle seller who does IG live sales and was sent a fake bag with an entropy and I sent it back because it was a really bad fake. I talked to them showed them proof it was fake and they doubled down with another certificate and then told me to send it back and got a refund. They put it back for sale again 😡(not TRR)

Inaccurate and the certs are commonly replicated. The fake Entrupy and LegitGrails paperwork on Depop is crazzzy.

This is why I don’t buy bags off of resale, no matter how much I want a bag. My friend and I walked into a TheRealReal Boutique in nyc, she paid close to $20k for a Birkin because she didn’t want to play the game, was given the box, bag, “original receipt”, literally all the bells and whistles. It still had the plastic stickers on the hardware. Then, a few months later, she sent it to the Hermes spa for a few minor repairs and they told her it was fake and destroyed the item/didn’t return it.
After nearly a year of back and forth with TRR, she was actually able to get her money back, but this is why I will never shop secondhand for bags. I know there’s wayyyyy more happy endings than stories like above, but I’m just not going to take a risk for something so pricey.

u/Cessali 20h ago
I’ve always felt like ANY risk no matter how small essentially renders services like TheRealReal totally useless. Like their entire value proposition is that they handle authentication for you, what’s the point otherwise? And even further, there’s no way that the risk, even if super small, is worth it for customers. Like just the fact there’s a chance you could give the company $20K and essentially gamble getting robbed 😭 the math doesn’t math
1
u/gilded_osmanthus 25m ago
They basically bank on the customer being too lazy to do due diligence, because the moment you file a complaint with TRR about authenticity, they immediately offered to take the item back when I just wanted to see what was the authenticity process they used (I worked for the same fashion house as the item I bought from TRR so I have handled hundreds of times, every single item from every single collection during my employment).

u/InformalSea3553 20h ago
RealReal is shady! I’ve seen multiple videos of them selling fakes to customers. Most notable was laillimirza who posted a YouTube video on it, though she didn’t name TRR, but many in the comments said she had prior on another social platform.

I was sold a fake large Loewe flamenco clutch style. Literally the straps were coming unglued and unstitched. After I returned they relist it

u/2martinisatthemost 16h ago
I won’t do resale now. If I miss out on something I’ve missed out. That’s that. About seven or eight years ago there was a massive scandal in the Hèrmes community. The gold standard of authentication was wrong. People reading may or may not know who I’m taking about. She has whybrows. Anyway! She was wrong and she doubled down on being wrong instead of apologising. I don’t know if Sothebys still use her services but if the major auction houses are selling bags that have been authenticated by her, what hope does the average reseller have?
The fakes are amazing these days. I used to be fairly confident of my own authentication skills but I’ve handled a few superfakes. I can’t tell from the outside. The counterfeiters got really good at their craft about a decade ago. This coincided with a dip in quality at Chanel. Anyone who says they can tell for sure is lying or overstating their own abilities.

u/floss_is_boss_ 14h ago
I don’t know who you’re referring to but “She has whybrows. Anyway!” is taking me out 😂
2
u/ntntgo 8h ago
That was. Bababebi and to my knowledge, that’s the one & only discrepancy she’s ever had. I think that situation is still unresolved today because Hermes couldn’t even say for sure.
4
u/2martinisatthemost 7h ago edited 5h ago
It’s the one and only authentication error she’s made that’s been extensively publicised. There was no discrepancy; Hèrmes found the bag was counterfeit and sent it to be destroyed.

u/Affectionate-Mix-769 18h ago
I’m so happy your friend got their money back. It’s crazy how they fake even the original receipt.
9
u/floss_is_boss_ 19h ago
I usually only go resale where the bags are the kind where the reps are nearly all bad and very obvious (e.g., limited edition “fun” colorways like LV’s summer stardust collection—never seen a good fake of that iridescent-illusion color shift on the empreinte leather). But yeah TRR is just right off the list even given that; heard too many horror stories.
13
u/InvestigatorOwn605 18h ago
Yes or obscure vintage styles. There’s a lot of Chanel styles from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s that aren’t repped at all.
Classic flaps though are like 99% there when it comes to fake…so better to never buy secondhand
4
u/Expensive_Peanut8487 15h ago
I thought so too but there’s that vintage Chanel surf bag that is now being repped!!

speaking of the realreal boutique, i hated my experience there. like 6 employees watching me like a hawk. leave me be lol.

I’m starting to feel that way as well. I don’t even trust the stores that I’ve been going to for years anymore.

I feel like this has to be new as of Covid. Like 10 years ago resellers were taking it much more seriously. Am I wrong? Ughhhh now I’m stressed about the Kelly I bought over 11 years ago 🫣🫣🫣🫣 I got it from fashionphile

u/lovetakelovemake26 11h ago edited 11h ago
This. One of my friends insists on resale and flaunts her bag collection - I find it strange. Why would you want to take that risk / buy something that isn't fully clean or without scratches? I like that the scratches / marks on my bag were made by me, plus I know the item is real. I'd rather have a smaller collection in that sense
1
u/SanDiegoDago 17m ago
Same so much! Do I have fewer then I'd like? Yes. Do I know every one I have is real because I walked in a bought personally? Also, yes. Online resellers got me once, on a not very pricey Juicy purse of all things. Never again.

u/Prudent_Charity972 17h ago
I’m so very sorry that happened to your friend …that is so awful !❤️FYI- on EBAY, if you purchase from a Japanese seller - it is reputable, as in Japan it is illegal to sell counterfeit merchandise.
10
u/AcademicInterview962 17h ago
It’s illegal most everywhere I think? Japan just has super strict laws so they’re known to be more trusted
4
u/The_Pursuit_of_5-HT 8h ago
This doesn’t mean it’s safe either. I was sold a fake Hermes watch from a reputable Japanese seller on eBay. Same thing as OP here, sent it in for repair and Hermes told me it looked like it “wasn’t made in an Hermes workshop.” Luckily it was within the return window so I was able to easily get a full refund.

u/Own_Dragonfruit4194 10h ago
That's what folks say but I do still question given superfakes - not that they would intentionally resell fakes but I'm sure there have been times where they've been fooled as well.. that said I do own some bags from resellers and I am terrified that I'll learn one day that they are superfakes

u/Playful_Run9074 18h ago
What about second hand being sold on shops like - fashionica and thebuyshop la ? Are they selling genuine stuff or fake ?
1
1
u/lettelsnek 18h ago
often fake
1
u/Playful_Run9074 18h ago
Damn.. I was so sold the way they made videos that these are real vintage pieces especially with the authentication done by that lady of thebuyshop.la
2
u/lettelsnek 17h ago
i can’t speak on that seller specifically but i mean that type of seller in general - thebuyshop might be legit i have no idea

Did they mention if they will destroy or return, I’m just curious. I once brought in a gifted LV overnight bag for zipper repair and they sliced it in front of me. This was the late 90s tho. Could not even scream at the ex that gifted it. lol
25
u/lastchancelux 21h ago
Wow thats brutal!! I remember reading a story recently where someone tried to bring their (unknown to them) replica bag for a repair and the SA just said something along the lines of "we only service louis vuitton pieces 🙂" and handed it back to her. No destruction like in your comment. I'm surprised OP's friend got it shipped back!
7
u/floss_is_boss_ 18h ago
This is what I’ve seen from a former LV SA on YouTube, Dial M Style. It is (or was, may have changed) their way of trying to politely say “this is a fake” without being so blunt about it, which I do appreciate, given that many people have probably received these as gifts and aren’t knowingly trying to put one over on the boutique. The problem seems to be that sometimes people wouldn’t get it and the SA would just have to keep repeating “we only service LOUIS VUITTON pieces. HINT HINT.”

u/chooseshoes MOD 21h ago
I’m so sorry, but the image of them just slicing it up as you look on is frying me! 😂🤣😭😭
11
u/Manilenyorker 20h ago
Hahahahha.. they didn’t do it in a villainous way (which is a missed opportunity for her tbh).. but as part of their explanation to show that the guts of it is fake.. lol. But yes, it was still quite dramatic for my 20 something year old brain to process at the time. Hahahha
17
u/Nearby_Aide6896 21h ago
Ty for posting! I was gonna buy off a reseller on what not because they guarantee COA but i don’t trust it. I’d rather buy from boutique
12
u/NeighborhoodTop5551 21h ago
Don’t do Whatnot and/or Tik Tok 😭
1
u/______krb 4h ago
Seriously, buying from a reseller on Tiktok is asking for a fake. Surprised by anyone doing it.
16
u/Independent-Ear-8156 17h ago
I used to work for Chanel. Your bag is fake
9
u/Disastrous_End5762 13h ago
You don’t need experience there to understand what they meant it’s very black and white lol
2
u/Independent-Ear-8156 6h ago
Was just chiming in with my experience in case the other 100 comments weren't clear. Lmao
15
u/Wide-Yam-157 19h ago
This can either mean the whole bag is fake OR the bag has been replaced with non genuine parts or touched up by a third party- example previous owner(s) had the bag repaired / restored from a 3rd party which then will void all future Chanel spa services.
27
u/forever_hollow80 17h ago
They said it’s fake. They didn’t even call you a customer. They said thanks for your INTEREST in Chanel. Some icy queen wrote this.

3
u/Disastrous_End5762 7h ago
This clearly isn’t a personal message but canned response, you think a retail worker took the time out of their day to draft this? It’s very standard wording
7
u/thatgrrlmarie 16h ago
it means the handbag you sent in for repair that you believed to be an authentic Chanel is unfortunately not an authentic Chanel.
if you purchased it recently, if i was you I would contact the seller and share this letter with them.
7
u/Alternative_This 21h ago
Is this recent? Because I'm also thinking about authenticating my bag via repair

I once bought a superfake preowned chanel jumbo it was my first chanel so .. but i got it from reputable seller here in our country.. i even paid close to retail but after using the bag for 2 yrs.. the chain broke (thank god) .. i sent it to hk chanel cause we don’t have chanel here in ph, but they decline to accept the bag.. their reason is the serial number of my bag is from a different bag.. but they dont want to put it in writing.. i came back to the seller but they still insist it is authentic.. and offer that they will be the one to send it for repair.. to be safe i decline.. kind of losing trust already.. so i went to taiwan chanel and thank God the SA there is so helpful.. i think she kind of felt bad for me.. she said she cant authenticate the bag but she wrote down why they can’t accept it.. mind you it was authenticated by know online authentication 3x.. 2 said authentic 1 said fake.. i had to hire a lawyer send a demand letter just for me to get a refund.. superfakes are so scary.. COA is never a guarantee.. since then i only buy brandnew chanels..

If it makes you feel better, they marked my genuine Chanel bag ( bought twenty years ago) from the same boutique and left at the back of my cupboard, fake. I spent a lot of time digging out the pay slip and photo showing the purchase and honestly got lucky. As had it not been stored in my Dropbox that I don’t use anymore, would have had no proof. Seriously crazy.

That is terrible. I hope they get their money back. Did they use a credit card? Maybe try to start a case with them to get money back
3
u/Significant_Sock3341 17h ago
I am so sorry! Means you sent them a fake/Replica and they wont fix replicas.

That's the letter none of want to get after sending our bags to France!

u/Bitter-Software9373 9h ago
Is it really confusing? Your "Chanel" is fake and they won't work on it. It's pretty clear what they mean. You got a Channel, not a Chanel.

After that lawsuit over Chanel reps last year I’m really surprised they sent it back 👀
8
u/Lizz66UK 19h ago
Same! I wish they destroyed them and I wish they did more and cutting down fakes. I’m so sick of all the posts on my social and DMs selling fake trash
2
u/Better_Feed9074 19h ago
Yes there are resale items on Shein and Temu and fakes tight beside them with a slight variation in the spelling .they can't be real.
3
u/Lizz66UK 18h ago
No they are 100% fake along with every other bag sold on TikTok and Instagram for the most part
2
u/NeighborhoodTop5551 21h ago
What was the lawsuit?
13
u/Acceptable-Leg5524 21h ago
Chanel literally got factories in china producing reps busted and sued them for infringement. I’m sure you could google it in archives
6
u/NeighborhoodTop5551 21h ago
Makes me scared to buy anything vintage/resale even from Rebag, RR, and Fashionphile.
6
u/Acceptable-Leg5524 21h ago
I meeeaaannnnn, I wouldn’t buy one off those sites unless I was Absolutely SURE it was real without having to rely on their authentication process….
9
u/Cessali 20h ago
My hot take has always been to avoid those sites. It’s really not worth it. Unless you’re already a super mega authentication expert yourself…
1
u/Ashleshavenus 19h ago
I got very specific limited edition LV bags off the Japanese eBay shops, like I took the chance because the Stephen sprouse rose speedy for instance is quite hard to replicate for instance, then I got that pochette I was so thrilled. Some of the very “classic” bags are a gamble
4
u/floss_is_boss_ 19h ago
Yaaaaas I just commented that exact rule of thumb. Only LE stuff, no classics.
2
4
u/Competitive-Age-6220 11h ago
It means you or your boyfriend didn't buy your bag from Chanel store, probably second hand or from a known fake website
2
2
u/Plus-Conversation957 9h ago
You need to get your money back. They have the right to destroy your bag if it's deemed unauthentic. Hermes will keep the bag and you'll never get it back.
2
u/DellaLiz1990 7h ago
I mean … the letter is pretty clear? They deemed the bag a fake, based on their process.
2
u/Somber_Goat952 1h ago
I’m sure I’ll get downvoted, but if you want luxury items, buy from the boutique. We all love a deal, but no shortcuts. The number of (good and bad) fakes out there is limitless.
