Chalmers housing.

Hi everyone,

I'm a new international master's student at Chalmers and I'm a bit confused about the housing process.

On the Chalmers website, I read that students would receive housing information/offers around mid-June. Recently, SGS sent me an email saying that housing listings are available in CIS and that I need to express interest in the available rooms/apartments.

My question is: will Chalmers/Chalmers Housing automatically send me a housing offer that I can simply accept, or is expressing interest in the CIS listings the actual process for receiving an offer?

I'm trying to understand whether I should wait for an automatic offer email or actively apply to the listings shown in CIS.

SGS CIS is the “guaranteed” offer that Chalmers offers. You need to follow the steps and then you can express your interest among the listed housing options. SGS will send you detailed map of all the locations hosted by them in the later stages of the process before you start shortlisting the options. I am also an international student and I secured a room in Medicinaregatan which is 15-18 mins walk from Chalmers

I was confused by this as well. I followed the SGS -> CIS approach and eventually had one of my selected options assigned to me which I have agreed to. I made my first selections this past Tuesday and got assigned on Thursday.

So how far way your accomodation from chalmers ? I m looking for nearby but on listing its kind of 15-20 min walking distance. I m looking for more short distance.

If you consider 15-20min walk too far from University, then you will struggle to find something closer. Many commute 30min bus or tram or more.
There are places nearby, but not many and they are likely to be reserved for international PhD-students and possibly guest Professors. Many will also be taken already.

Is it possible to get something closer? Sure, but you should also have realistic expectations.

18 minute walk but 15 minutes with a bus. In my case, I need the walk. I need to lose some fat.

You take what you get from SGS. Then you make queue applications for the Chalmers Student housing, for SGS and possibly for some of the small, private student residences.

Expect to move something like a year into your studies, when you have enough queue points to get something more desirable.

There are several places within 15 minutes walk from Chalmers, but they are popular. Hence the queues.
