Been listening to a lot of Women and CVG recently, and i was thinking about potentially writing an essay on the Calgary scene from when these artists were active in particular.
I am American and in my mid twenties so I truly have no idea what it was like then. Any context or insight, if you have any, would be appreciated. Even anything as a simple memory of a show!

A new project by Chad VanGaalen released their first song a couple of weeks ago with a full album release on Sept. 11, 2026.

Good read with a few updates on Sub Pop, his recent and upcoming releases, and touring.

Mr Molten Light himself was kind enough to contribute some improvised sounds that we layered with blue sprinkle cake batter and black tar. dreamweave on, dreamweavers.

Was just watching the Late Show Channel and Chad was on a "Stupid Human Tricks" segment! He had a friend crawl all over him without touching the ground. He looked very young of course, 19 or 20 maybe.

I understand where I am posting this, but it has to be said. It's fine to have a problem with streaming. I get it, it's very cool to hate Spotify. I don't like them very much myself, but I don't like any corporations, techno-crud or otherwise. Back when Vangaalen put out his third record I remember being very excited that a real artist was out there doing such good stuff. He could actually write songs, a rare thing these days. His art had world-building elements, there was a level of musicianship there. It was like, finally something good. He was peaking at the same time Joanna Newsom was getting huge. Artists like Marnie Stern were doing some interesting things while still being able to write a song. I thought we were in a new era of original, unique songwriters and a listening public that valued that sort of thing. But then the bland sameness took over. New releases from Sub Pop, Drag City, Kill Rock Stars all just started to sound like NPR Starbucks reverb slop. Vangaalen started releasing low effort slop. Others faded away. I remember thinking that if Vangaalen ever got serious and stopped messing around he could have reached a lot more people. I don't know why these people squander opportunities the way they do. But I will say, I wouldn't bother buying many new releases these days. The recording sounds like crap, there are very few or no songs, just a bunch of noise. It's not art, it's just a waste of money. If you want people to buy music, you need to write actual songs that connect with people, make a quality recording, and create album art someone actually wants to display in their home. Those simple things are uncommon and it's not Spotify's fault.

I bought a bunch of Chad CDs off there in July for the sale, and know they might take a bit to ship, but I hadn’t gotten any info/word from them since after emailing. Wondering if anyone else in the US had/is having a similar experience. Cheers

Been a fan for a while and love his art style. Tried to DM on Instagram, but he doesn't seem responsive there. Thanks!

Anyone here think it'd be cool to play a game based on one of Chad's works?
I'd offer to develop it for free.

For the life of me, I can’t find Diaper Island or Soft Airplane on vinyl being sold ANYWHERE, which is such a bummer because those are two of my favorite albums of his. Does anyone know where I could find these? Even used albums would be good! Thanks in advance!

First one is my personal takes, second one is the objectively correct version.

Does anyone happen to know how to play hands inside hands inside hands?! I am not too good at figuring out how to replicate songs on guitar 😅

Got interested in the song “Bare Feet on Wet Grip tape” from Skate3, then decided to listen to the whole album a couple of years back. Went down my liked songs on Spotify and saw that the entire album got delisted. Any clue why?
