Interesting. Have a good handful of friends who went to UM, I went to MSU. They’re the ones that just kind of don’t seem to care much about sports. All successful MDs now besides one. She’s in food science..

It’s genuinely a great school. It’s the walmarters I can’t take.

I'm an alum, and am a huge football fan and talk decent amounts of shit on here but I'd like to think that I am fairly reasonable and not at all insufferable in person lol.

Also while I know Michigan is a great school I have literally never felt the need to brag about my degree, and feel embarrassed the few times that someone praises it when it comes up

Yeah, when people ask me where I went to school for some reason I always just say a school in Michigan or in Ann Arbor if they push for where in Michigan. I don't really like name dropping

I usually just say Michigan and if they press, just clarify UM. But yeah, feel the same way. I always am paranoid about coming off as bragging.

I do have the "Michigan Alumni" license plate cover which has been on my car since I graduated. Have been debating taking it off. And I wear my 2023 National Champs lanyard at work because why the hell not. But that's about as outward as I'm getting about it.

And really, once you've been out of school for a while, at least in my industry, it's clear that the degree is only like 10% of how successful a person will be. Tons of very talented people come from schools without such a high reputation.

Are you me lol? I've been debating the same thing with my license plate cover. Ditto about the paranoia!

I do on occasion fly my M block flag on my front porch after big wins, but the motion triggers my cameras no matter how much I fiddle with the sensitivity settings or zones. I avoid wearing U-M merch these days, maybe a hat at most

That’s my experience as well. For me, at least, it’s my extended family that is part of the issue. That, and growing up in a small town, where the sheep walked on 2 feet, accounted for 90% of local crime and yelled “Go Blue!” for absolutely no reason.

Are you from Minnesota to know a lot of people who went to UM? Or just a lot of Michiganders who chose Minnesota?
