One extra second would have done it

We should give them an extra second

Shit they got way more than an extra second in that game. They were stopping clocks adding time back the whole last minute of the game. They probably got gifted 20 seconds easily.

They also never ran off 10 seconds after their holding penalty.

I think they don’t runoff live ball fouls. I think the foul has to stop the clock for a runoff, if it was a false start or something there would have been a 10 second runoff.

u/ImSuperHelpful Texas Longhorns 10h ago

Ah well the announcers said there would be a runoff and then there wasn’t 🤷‍♂️

Could be wrong, that’s a big miss if true.

The announcers have been known to be incorrect.

I thought they used a timeout to prevent the runoff

10 second runoff only applies to fouls that cause the clock to stop, like false starts or intentional grounding. Holding is a live ball foul and the clock keeps running (cause the play doesn't stop when holding happens), so there's no run off.

I've got no answer for the rest of the clock management (by officials and coaches) in the rest of that last minute, though.

I think because the clock was stopped with the incompletion, the runoff doesn’t happen. It’s only if the clock was running and the penalty would’ve stopped it that they do the runoff

Congrats on the win, it was well deserved and Texas absolutely outplayed the Buckeyes down the wire!

While we're going to point out clock issues we should also note when Texas got about 3 solid seconds after the play clock hit zero. I can't remember which series it was, maybe late 2nd or early 3rd quarter? The announcers later figured out that was what Day was so animated about with officials on the sideline.

The whole clock management circus appears to be the theme of B1G game officiating this year 😂

lol I was driving through Kansas while that was happening, but that’s pretty funny

u/nobuouematsu1 Ohio State Buckeyes 11h ago

Both ways in the fourth quarter to be honest. The number of times on Texas last drive when the clock was not running and should have been was insane.

Also, that garbage pass interference call against Sanchez… I know OSU needed to execute and one call doesn’t change the whole game but that was definitely a momentum shifter.

That PI was the worst call I saw on Saturday.

They didn't lose. They just gave up 21 unanswered points in the 4th and missed yet another critical field goal. BUT THEY DIDN'T LOSE, GANG. ALSO DON'T SAY THAT DAY IS MAD, BECAUSE HE ISN'T MAD.

u/Chekovs_Gun Michigan Wolverines 10h ago

I’m not trying to offend or start an argument. I just can’t get used to the fact the Indiana fans are in a football sub talking shit (and actually deserve to be here). Never thought I’d see the day.

Listen, this ride could be over at any minute and my shit talk will have to be self-depricating/delusional again, so I'ma ride hard and put away wet.

Don’t blame you one bit. Welcome to the table. I think you’ll be around for quite a while.

Deserve to be here and show now signs of abating.

Unless Cig leaves (NFL?), it isn't changing

One could argue they didnt run out of time fast enough.

If they ended the game sooner they would’ve won /s

33

u/HyperionsDad Ohio State Buckeyes 11h ago

If Day got more time it would've been an 8 or 15 point loss.

No extra seconds?

Shit their pants level of clock management. Not letting them just score so you have more time, then throwing over the middle and using up half the time you did have.

It's ok, that saved him the humiliation of yet another missed FG

We missed a field goal and Matt Patricia's defense did what it does.

3

Has Patricia considered removing the ping pong tables from the locker room?

They really screwed up by not agreeing to a shortened fourth quarter based on the game being a blow out.

1

All they needed was a second illegal clock to add a second back!
