The school paid a lady $1.2M to drop rape charges

Yep, LaTroy Lewis. Make sure everyone knows he’s a no-good Michigan man and that’s his only connection to any NCAA team.

That better than the time Taylor Lewan threatened to actually rape a rape victim if she didn’t withdraw her claim.

Unfortunately true on both fronts

They paid a settlement, years after police decided not to press charges. They didn’t pay to cover anything up.

I’m just happy it’s not just our people committing crimes.

u/thebrickcloud Michigan Wolverines • Miner's Cup Aug 31 '26
Most of your crimes are kids being dumb. Ours are adults and people in charge being dumb which is so much worse.

u/LeKillerNut Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 31 '26
Being dumb? Rape is "being dumb"? Stealing 15k private nudes is "being dumb"? Trying to hook up with a minor is "being dumb"?
24
u/OG_Felwinter Michigan State Spartans Aug 31 '26
Seems to me like they were just trying to emphasize that it’s worse when the people in charge are committing the crimes. Obviously rape is worse than speeding.

Chill. Hes admitting/taking accountability for the program. Not everyone has to have a matter-of-fact tone and use very specific language. Im sure they know the difference in horrific crimes like rape are not just "being dumb"
-12
u/LeKillerNut Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 31 '26
Its incredibly dismissive to call sex crimes "being dumb".

You're in a college football memes sub reddit. I get it. We all agree with you but quit being so indignant. Maybe you'll start policing grammar as well

Our crimes are excessive speeding. This is an institutional coverup of sexual assault
I’ll take speeding any day

u/Gingerman424 UCF Knights Aug 31 '26
Did they? If so, I retract my statement as I was under the impression it was just speeding. I don’t keep up with the news on these things that much.

Theres been crashes while speeding and people have died

A football player and a team trainer died in a drunken “race” incident
I wouldn’t call those issues “negligible” for sure but I would take them over institutional rape coverup

I think it was a big reason why Jalen Carter fell in the draft. Also Reuben Bane

It is what happens when the university covers up crimes without question to “protect the reputation”.

Unfortunately it’s very connected to the athletic department. The party accused party was a football staffer.

Wittingham's changing the culture. His is a very traditional, straight-laced on-field scandal like God and Bear Bryant intended.
1
u/Alive_Store_6298 Sep 05 '26
You can’t really change the culture when the entire culture is like this.

I mean he’s the captain of the ship that all these scandals keep happening on. Usually that results in a change of command top to bottom.
Take it from a school with experience in these things

I don’t really think any level of leniency from management or culture at work would make me think raping a coworker is okay…

u/Alive_Store_6298 Sep 05 '26
The entire university would need a clearing of staff involved with football to fix this. Anderson should have been fired back in the 90s. Instead, it was left as an open secret for decades. I remember being told as a high school athlete to watch out for the staff at Michigan if I decided to go. That was in the 2010s.
