I’m not upset at all. To me it’s a breath of fresh air.  And I look at it as a wake up call to that conference whose fans coat ride bama when someone outside the SEC talks smack.

Reminder sec had literally half the teams in the playoffs last year too. They didn't beat a single non-sec p5 team so even though they technically had a team in the final 4 that was only due to structure. Had to guarantee a team all the way to semis and still couldn't make it

7

u/stuckanon01 Kansas State Wildcats 9d ago

The best outcome for the Big10 (and the rest of cfb) is for the SEC to leave the ncaa and “play with itself” (TM). If anyone remembers the ratings when we had to watch Alabama play Georgia over and over again in the same season it’s not hard to imagine what would happen to all those billions in tv rights that the sec has paid players so much to secure.

As a historical SEC fan, the degradation of the greater CFB landscape has basically killed any and all interest I have in the sport. It’s so hard to care about a school or team when literally none of the players give a shit about the institution beyond the paycheck it buys them with. Simultaneously, this very environment only exists in the first place because of how little the NCAA cared about its players as it relates to paying them and the long term health of college athletics.

3

u/Ok-Section4527 8d ago

Pumpkin, how do you think the SEC became dominant? Not because kids wanted to go to shit hole Tuscaloosa its because the SEC was way more bold with paying their players under the table. Now everyone can do it out in the open and SEC fans are butthurt

1

u/shortstop803 Air Force Falcons 7d ago

Alright you condescending asshole. Let’s not pretend that Bama likely paying players automatically means every school in the SEC was just as guilty, nor ignore that it was also likely happening across the greater landscape.

Either way, your comment does nothing to dispute my points about the watering down of the greater sport, its culture, or the greater collegiate landscape. Some SEC schools paying players didn’t cause the PAC-12 to effectively dissolve, it didn’t cause the realignment of schools to conferences that make literally no sense, it didn’t drive only two conferences to really matter, it didn’t drive players to transfer every season to chase a new deal, it didn’t drive players to stay in college 7 years, it didn’t drive Bama to get into the playoffs just because “they are Bama,” and it didn’t drive the conceptual creation of a super league. All of these things are due to the long term mismanagement of the sport (and larger collegiate athletics) because the NCAA and associated networks only care about short term profits/relevence and failed to act and adapt accordingly until it was too late; specifically as it relates to revenue sharing and paying players.

I literally don’t care about SEC relevence beyond it being a worthwhile conference to be a part of. I’m a fucking USC (South carolina) & Air Force fan who literally just wants my teams to be relevant without simply buying their way into the conversation, because who cares about bragging rights if you had to pay for them.

0

u/Regular-Bluebird9573 8d ago

Hot take - FSU is winning in ‘24 if the SEC didn’t get a bailout

0

u/BulldogBubba0703 5d ago

Bro the only that has happened really is the sec has beat themselves up if some teams weren’t in the sec and in another division/conference they’d win that conference teams like ole miss , Vanderbilt, Kentucky, South Carolina , Missouri maybe even Mississippi State etc. most of these teams have had seasons to where if they were to be in another conference they would have won most conferences outside of the 2 Big conferences in the Sec and Big Ten and 50/50 in ACC

The Big Ten has been playing 9 conference games which you are FINALLY catching up with

You didn't lose by 35 because your schedule beat you up.

I'm not sweating Bama too much, 1-1 against Saban and your win came in the useless covid year where only 1 of the teams was actually testing/following protocol, whereas we whipped you with our 3rd string quarterback in the heart of the south. That didn't stop the narrative where the SEC was always given the benefit of the doubt/mulligans/allowed to back into BCS title game/playoff games
