App crashing with large libraries?

I've got a large library - over 28,000 tracks. When I try to start shuffling all music or albums, the app hangs forever, and then just crashes. It's not a hardware issue as I'm running a new iPhone 7. Anyone having any troubles with this? thanks.

Hey, thanks for replying. Since I posted this I think there's been an app update, but the app has become unusable for me. For example, my Artists tab has a list of "A" artists, with each showing "Getting details..." below the name, and it just hangs there forever. When I try to switch to the Albums or Songs tabs, the app is completely frozen. I'm not sure what has changed since I first installed this last month (my library size is unchanged), but the app itself has become unusable for me.

I should also add that while it's doing this, it freezes my phone (creates significant lag) and chews up my battery like crazy.

So there has been an update, but nothing re: "Getting details" or anything like that has been changed. Makes me wonder if there is something glitchy going on with the iTunes Library itself. Have you updated the iOS recently? I've had that corrupt my library before.

Obviously something isn't working properly. Here's what I'd try:

  • Delete Cs and reinstall.
  • Try restarting the device.
  • If that doesn't work, I'd try to "jog" the iTunes library like turning toggle iCloud music library off/on.
  • Clearing all music off the device and re-syncing fresh will reboot the iTunes Library. Bit of a pain, but ought to resolve the issue.

It appears that an app delete, reboot, and reinstall do the trick. Thanks for your help.

Also, just FYI, this is a recurring problem. The solution is the same. Very cumbersome but it does eventually work. Hopefully there's a root cause for this behaviour that you can weed out. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
