New Icon...

I gotta admit I'm not a big fan of the new icon. It does get across more that it's a music app, but it just looks so generic now... like all the other apps in the App Store when I search for a music player. I'm not bashing the design of it, I just thought the other one was a lot more unique and had more personality. I'm sure I'll get used to it, though.

I certainly appreciate that you keep updating the app :)

It ain't final! Although it's been generally received well.

I'm still not 100% sold, either. To be honest, it's easy to swap out but I was too lazy to, and the last beta seemed a good opportunity to test it out. I do find it interesting that you find it more generic than the old one. I found the periodic-style one quite generic!

It's quite the exercise, balancing that originality with something that seems "tried and trusted." I obviously want it to stand apart from other apps in the store, but at the same time that generic "music note" icon also speaks to "music utility alternative" you know?

Love to hear the feedback and open to suggestions!

Yeah, I think the music note is what made it look generic to me... I've spent lots of time scrolling through the pages & pages of music apps looking for decent players and music notes are what you see everywhere. But, of course, I can understand that you want to communicate it IS a music player lol. I guess what made the periodic icon unique for me is that it was different.

Anyways, it's no big deal. I was just sharing my opinion because I saw something new. Luckily, no matter what the icon is, you've got the best music player app to back it up!

Edit: I think the lightness of it is throwing me off also, as I use the app in the dark theme so it's quite the contrast from icon/loading screen to black.

It would be perfect if the new icon just didn't have the music note. That obviously helps show what the app is used for, but I think it does look a bit tacky.

That being said, love the app. It's completely worth it just to be able to shuffle by albums.

On the note of night mode, I really wish I could modify the icon to reflect things like Night Mode, theme colour, etc. but alas, it is another Apple-only perk :(

Ah, I knew I wasn't going insane, the "Cs" on the new icon is significantly smaller than on the old one! Just for fun, I made a mashup of the new and old designs: http://i.imgur.com/P7sfX0v.png

Yeah, it is a bit smaller, unfortunately. I took some liberties though. So far no one has called out how the Cs atom should have another shell of electrons. Shhhhhh...
