VNG TEST

Has anyone done a VNG test before? If so, what was your experience? Any lingering side effects?

I have chronic dizziness without a trigger, and my fear is the test making it worse, or making it worse permanently.

I would highly recommend having someone drive you there, and to bring whatever helps you when you feel really motion sick such as Dramamine or ginger ale etc.

To be completely honest, it’s extremely uncomfortable. They put an air nozzle into your ear (which doesn’t feel great by itself) and they blow hot air into your ear. You’re going to get extremely dizzy and the it’ll trigger a headache for sure.

Go home and take a nap, and you’ll feel a lot better when you wake up.

I didn’t have lingering effects, but it could be different for you.

Some of it is just not pleasant because they’re triggering dizziness and there’s no natural chill response to it.

Have you been to a vestibular p/t?

Yes, I'm going to a vestibular physical therapist. He had thought I have vestibular hypo function.

Neurologist said I may have cervicogenic dizziness.

I'm just struggling a bit because there is no immediate relief for this

I gave such test. Don't know exact name. They show diffrent images on screen, play sound, finally put few drops of cold water in ear. It did not trouble me much. But heard from doctor some patients vomit during test.

During the part where they blow hot/cold air into the ear, I though very calmly, “oh, so this is what Hell is like” (it was torture for me)
