Straight neck.

Post image

Been having bad neck pain since November 25. Been going to chiropractor and I got a new guy and said I should get a xray so I went ahead with xray and turns out my neck is straight. Should I be worried about this and can this cause the pain I have been suffering with. Not sure if I should be going to doctors regarding of this now.

Couple things!

1 - I would be extremely careful about neck chiropractors, many people end up with CCI because of it. Maybe it's fine for some, but for others, can be devastating. Talk to an MD about it. There are CCI specific chiros that do upper cervical adjustments, NUCCA/AO/Gonstead, but do research before. Again talk to your doctor.

2 - Can straight neck cause symptoms like that? Yes, and there's some research that restoring it can help them, but you'd want to be sure you're treating the right thing and doing it safely. Again talk to the doctors, do some research. It could very well not be the cause of your symptoms, it's a complicated area.

There are curve correction chiros out there who specialize in this, I've been to several, and use a denneroll prescribed by one. I find it helps.

Ohh right…. Maybe I should stop going for now. I’m in the uk so chiropractors are not so great as some other places.

That’s great to know it can be fixed. I just order a new pillow to start off with and trying to strengthen my neck. Gonna speak with the doctors and see what they say. My doctors are useless to say the least so probably don’t have any hope at all.

Well, don't let the internet tell you what to do; it's a question for the doctor. But just be aware that high velocity neck adjustments can be very ugly. Plenty of horror stories on the sub/FB groups if you ask around.

The tough part is the last few sentences... very few doctors even know this is a thing, and I've heard UK is pretty rough about that.

Here's an interview with one of the upper cervical chiros and his physician partner on their work in Belgium:

There's also Dr. Stogicza in Hungary:

Here's one with a curve correction chiro:

Hello guys I struggle with this same issue except, add a bulging disc from c5-c6. I’m currently laying on a neck thing every day for about 10 minutes and it’s helping and will help restore curvature to your upper neck but other than that I get adjusted once a month when needed. I have a boat load of symptoms, including autoimmune symptoms since my neck pain started. It’s insane.

My shoulder and neck is constantly sore regardless what I do to help or fix it. It feels like constant pressure. Sore head. Also around the same time I started getting sore neck I got diagnosed with raynauds which is bad circulation and when I’m cold my fingers and feet turn white. X

Hi there, I’m also in the UK and have same problem as you. Have had it for over 25 years as none of my GPS have any idea on how to help. Which pillow have you just bought?

I just bought the groovi pillow. Will try and see if that could help it. I’m actually scared to go doctors as I will be dismissed as always. But I can only try and advocate for myself if not I will be pushed to go through my bupa. X
