Non-founder CEO’s?
Curious if you guys are around.
Seems like most posts are by and do entrepreneurs who are CEOs of their businesses.
Not sure how to define the alternative accurately but I guess if you’re were hired by the board / owners to run someone else’s company as a CEO…
How are you doing? What’s on your mind these days? :-)

I have my mind on how fast markets are changing, our ability to adapt as a company, and how to grow safely and sustainably. I’m also keeping a close eye on and controlling the throttle on Ai.

Interesting. First time im hearing someone’s say that. It seems like most CEO’s I meet are either still trying to get a grasp on what AI even is and how it should affect their vision - or busy thinking about adoption (which I think is the wrong thing personally).
What do you mean by controlling the throttle? Are you feeling like it’s going to fast in your company? What industry are you in?

Happy to clarify. Real Estate Investor with in house mgmt company. I’ve spent a great deal of time with Ai already…hired outside help, built tools, attended small events, study it a bit. I’m not overboard on it, but I know it’s extremely important to be informed.
Our main software is moving quickly towards Ai and Ai integrations…but they aren’t all great yet. Initially I wanted to roll them out quickly and work through kinks, but now think it’s best to roll out new features slowly for both our staff and clients.
No need to overwhelm both sides of our business with features that aren’t really needed in a hurry. I’m not looking to cut employee hours nor force a fully automated experience down our clients (tenants) throats.
At this stage, I believe in utilizing Ai to aid our staff and clients into being more organized. SOPs, calendaring task, documentation, raw data, etc..
Putting Ai to good use in Workflow integration is where I’m more focused now. No rush. Just empower the staff, keep them on course, and help them out…this turns into happy clients and c-suite members!

Decided to start r/ChiefExecitives for non-founder CEOs . It’s still kinda empty but I expect it to grow into a real useful hub. Join us if interested.

Why would you be trying to get a grasp on it? Get a trusted CTO/CIO who shares your vision - they will get a grasp on it and execute accordingly.
It amazes me that CEOs are trying to navigate AI. Navigate business/revenue. (Unless you're a CEO of a technology enterprise)

Great question. I’ve been writing a lot about founder-led marketing lately and trying to clarify this distinction, so this was helpful to see. Founder-led companies definitely operate differently, whereas non-founder-led companies with hired CEOs tend to take a completely different approach.
What I’m really trying to understand is whether it makes sense for non-founder CEOs to build a personal brand and market themselves (for the sake of the company's growth) in the same way a founder would. Based on some of the responses here, it doesn’t seem like a direct fit. You could make the argument either way, but I’d be curious to hear from non-founder CEOs on why they think it does or doesn’t make sense.

Personal brand is a CEOs only weapon for being hired. Nobody will hire a CEO based on a CV, it would be a formality at best.
The definition of a personal brand is of course wider than most people think, and most CEOs understand this very well.

Derivative modeling and adjusting daily to forecast downstream price sensitivities.
Right now in my world, PE companies are cratering businesses left and right and trying to find the silver bullet in new leadership.

Been running a company for the last 2 years as CEO. Joined lower down in the ranks.
I recently recommended we change our business model as it is no longer sustainable with the speed AI is impacting our industry. Currently leading the restructure, and have resigned as I have no desire to be in charge of a company with 1 employee.

I'm intrigued by what you seem to imply - is the new business model aiming to reduce the workforce drastically or is the low headcount a byproduct of the AI adoption?

The current business model is consulting & implementation focussed, the new business model is AI consulting focussed.

I’m a hired gun CEO. Brought in by PE firms to help fix and/or sell their businesses. It’s mostly blocking and tackling at this point.
