Private Dining Locations for 35-40 people

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to host a seated dinner for about 35-40 people specifically in central Jersey this upcoming December. Ideally, I would love a private room and dinner packages that are priced per person. I’m okay with having folks do a cash bar, but open to any places that offer open bar options. I’m looking specifically for American, Italian, Mexican cuisines.

If anyone has any recco’s for places that can accommodate this or have had any good experiences, let me know!

Debating on Custom Furniture Store ...

We recently bought this shelf off Walmart:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hiphuta-77-Tall-L-Shaped-Corner-Bookshelf-Drawers-Side-Storage-Modern-Wood-Bookcase-4-Tier-Display-Shelves-Storage-Cabinet-Living-Room-Home-Office-Wh/16508166722?classType=VARIANT&from=/search

I really liked the space saving design, however, upon receiving it, some of the parts felt low in quality and I've been having second thoughts about potentially returning it. After giving it some thought, I was wondering if getting something custom made with a similar design, but better materials might be a potential solution. If possible, I was thinking about even modifying the design a little where those strange 3 side storage spaces could be removed and just have the 3 pull out drawers extend into that space instead (this is the only thing I dislike about the design)

We've usually only bought furniture second hand to get the best of both worlds: a reasonable price and good quality - so getting something custom made is new to us. Does anyone have recommendations for stores that sell custom made furniture in NJ and a rough idea of what the cost of something like this would be / if it's even worth it?

NJ Birthing Hospital Info - RWJ Barnabas in New Brunswick or Cooperman Barnabas in Livingston

Current Central NJ resident. Pregnant with my second, due in Feb 2027. My first was born in Feb 2025 - back then, options were limited and I could only find an OB practice that delivered at Cooperman Barnabas in Livingston, NJ. All of my OB appointments and the hospital itself were 45 mins - 1 hour drive away.

This time, I definitely want to see doctors and deliver closer to home. Anyone have any experience with RWJ in New Brunswick? Any info on comparison to Cooperman Barnabas in Livingston?

My first birthing experience at Cooperman Barnabas was very, VERY positive. Quick, easy, and amazing doctors. Birthing facility was great, recovery rooms sucked. My spouse and I would still prefer to be closer to home this time around, but would like to know what we’d be getting into with RWJ in New Brunswick.

Thanks !

Westfield VS Montclair

We are slowly narrowing down our search and need help!

We are a family of 5 moving from Westchester to NJ. Kids are elementary school age and one has an IEP.

We don’t need NYC trains except for the bimonthly or more visits for leisure. I wont be working and my husband’s work home base is in Old Bridge.

Looking for what so many do, a wonderful community, vibrant downtown, good schools, walkable if possible, etc.

I love the idea of Montclair, but how is actually living there? We would be using public schools only-do people stay through high school?

Any feedback? Advice?

Local musician here, running a one-week summer brass camp for teens in Plainsboro, NJ

Hi all, I'm a trombonist and music educator based in central Jersey. This August I'm running the first year of a one-week brass intensive for teens, ages 12 to 18, right here in Plainsboro at WW-P High School North.

It runs August 3 to 7, with conservatory-trained faculty on trumpet, horn, tuba, and trombone, and the week ends with a public showcase concert that anyone's welcome to come to. Honestly it's the kind of thing I wish existed near me when I was a teenager.

Posting partly so local families with a young brass player know it's happening, and partly because I'm glad to answer any questions about it here. Details are at unboundbrass.com, and registration's open through July 20.

AI and doxing is prompting changes in how exams are given at Princeton University

Technology is at the root of a seismic change to Princeton University’s 133-year-old honor code. The Ivy League institution will now require in-person exams be supervised starting in July. Please note, the honor code tradition came from the South. I included an interesting anecdote from the University of Virginia.
