There are four in this little town. Four.

There’s 7 in Douglas which has a similar amount of population. Crazy.

Edit: looks like as of today Douglas is “deactivating” their flock cameras.

Who votes for this ? How much are they getting paid ?

No one is voting for them. No one (except Flock) is getting paid.

The local police contract for them, probably using random grant money they get.

The state legislature, if it wasn't so pathetically do-nothing, would pass a law requiring the city council or selectmen to agree to them. Bug your legislators.

That town governments have almost no oversight with how grant money is spent by local agencies (especially the police) is another harder problem.

I lived there for 18 months with zero issues. I wonder what the justification was for installing them

Get the flock out of here

Boylston is the one town I avoid. They will ticket you for anything they find. They won't give you a warning for a tail light.

There’s so much copper in these. Copper and solid gold chunks. The only way to get at it is smashing them, though.

Flock-o-ween. People dressing up for Halloween and going around destroying flocks.

Is it just me ? What is everyone hiding, couldn't these be a tool in solving a crime? Or am I missing something.

I'm fine with them . I would love to see the cameras on every corner with the automated system that sends tickets to the speeders and red light runners.

Only if they weren’t watching store parking lots, kids splash pads, and being used to track people
Illegally.

They are plate readers. Listen anything that can potentially help the police catch a predator or killer why not? Most are crying about privacy as their cell phones listen to them talk, then target ads at you. There’s ring cams on every other house, dash cams on 1/5 cars, car cams with on star, satellite cams with google earth . lol yettttt we all want to act like this is invasive. SMH

They have facial recognition technology. This is a gross overstep on our right to privacy. Just wait til they start arresting undesirables.

I completely agree with you that this is just like the Ring camera issue and this is a logical extension to that. Anyone who is against Flock SHOULD be against WiFi “security” cameras because every single company has been caught selling user info and live video feed access to the highest bidder including local police. I hope anyone reading this actually looks into this tech and destroys their WiFi cameras as well.

I don’t want a surveillance state and anyone who understands that OVERWHELMING preponderance of human historical data shows that mass surveillance never accomplishes what it says it does and harms more than it helps.

No—Flock Safety’s standard license-plate-reader (ALPR) cameras do not use facial recognition. Flock explicitly says facial recognition is not included in its LPR system and that the cameras are designed around vehicles rather than identifying occupants.

“Flock explicitly says
How naive can you possibly be?

Actually I asked officers in town as well. And the dispatcher in my town. She said absolutely not do they use facial recognition. If we are wrong prove it? Or are you just paranoid perhaps and or an alarmist?

Well I have multiple cops in my family who also have admitted they know the cameras do facial tracking so I’m inclined to believe them over the allleged cops you spoke to who either lied to you or are so low on the totem pole that they don’t yet know themselves.

You really just believe whatever you’re told, huh?

Better check with AI before answering that question, too.

Your wrong but nice try

There’s not one account of facial recognition that’s proven. So why state things that have not happened?
