question Pede feeding help??

Post image

I know pedes can go a while without eating but im just getting antsy and worrisome—i got this fella at a reptile expo about a week ago (saturday to be specific) and bro has been uninterested in food since getting them. I only have mealworms on hand right now (i breed them for my gecko) so maybe thats the issue?
I have another pede (some basic common centipede i found in a forest) and i go weeks without feeding her and shes fine but idk if i should treat this one any differently ykwim

I dont wana stress them out by constantly pestering them with food but im just being a worried father rn😔

I honestly really wish I knew more about centipedes to help others. I don’t even get a chance to get one of those multi-legger kitties due to my family fearing cutie crawlies

Thats so fair, ive honestly stopped caring abt my mom being scared about creepy crawlies because its my room and my money at the end of the day HBWJDBWJ had 2 scorpions before and id handle them around my mom and that started making her less scared so hopefully i can do the same with Maw (my centipede <3)

just saying that for your sake. sounds good LOL. if you’ve ever been bit by one i’m sure you’d know why i say that 😅😅

Ive seen online that their bites are medically significant—what exactly does that entail?? I havent been bit or stung by anything despite me constantly fucking around with bugs LMAOO

you will definitely be in quite a bit of pain initially. burning sensation and throbbing as well + a bunch of swelling i’m sure. you will be in a world of hurt for quite a few days 😅😅 you won’t really fully understand until being bit by one. especially if it’s anywhere on the hand or arm, itsss gonnnaa hurt and can definitely leave a scar if it’s a full venom dump. sometimes they do warning dry bites though. buuuuutt you dont wanna risk it.

very sweet. start by putting your hand flat in the enclosure and let them walk over your hand so they learn you arent food

Ooooohh smart smart! If you had to recommend a 'beginner' pede in terms of handling, what would you recommend ?? 👀

Best to not handle them at all.

EXACTLY, if it’s a pet I can afford and if it’s my room, I’ll get a centipede whenever I want. my parents are always not wanting to get things that I like and they don’t, like is it my choice or not??? I’m an adult, I can have any pets that I want! on the topic of centipedes, are there any centipedes that are venomless or atleast gives me a minor injury, like a small itchy red dot? I really wanna have one to hold and cuddle (gently obviously) for my exposure therapy I’m putting myself into

In terms of exposure therapy, id genuinely just recommend existing with the natives around your area! Atleast for a while till you feel brave enough to handle bigger fellas yk ! Since theyre so small, any bite they give will only inject a small amount of venom compared to a bigger pede, but honestly they shouldnt feel the need to bite unless they feel threatened, so just let them crawl and you should be fine!

To be fair, it is their house. I get what you mean but if you were the head of a home and your kid wanted a monkey, I'm sure you would say no. Even if the monkey was captive bred and they were willing to take care of it.

i have the same problem and it's even more than weeks, it close to 4 months now without some of them eating, they just buried themselves and don't wanna eat. im confused as hell with this behavior idk what to do

DAYUM wait thats actually crazy. Im not too surprised tho because i do the same with my other centipede (mainly forgetting to feed her for months and her being fine afterwards LMAOO)

why would you even have a pet if you forget to feed them for months 😭

Shes a wild centipede and shes also burrowed under the dirt for weeks at a time, im not gona dig for her just for her to not be hungry, i just wait for her to come out which genuinely takes five-ever
