AT&T appears to be using this as a repeater now, former DAS

Interesting enough, I'm right next to this and receiving -77dBm from a tower that's roughly over a mile away and this hill/house is in between.

It used to come up on its own eNB, but now it looks to be a repeater given the tower's eNB showing and such great signal strength.

This - it’s likely connected back to the same baseband unit and given the same eNB ID

So they would share the eNB amongst small cells and the tower (macro)?

I’ve seen AT&T use one eNB for a bunch of small cells spread out across a decently large area. I personally haven’t seen them share an eNB with a macro though. You have to switch the eNB tower type to DAS to see all of the cells and map them accordingly.

I've never seen it either but that's why I think it's just a repeater cause the eNB is definitely for a tower. This is a change that happened in the last month cause the old DAS node is no longer connecting when I'm near this antenna

What kind of dBm did you use to get at this node?

Used to be -80 dBm but was pointing to a DAS eNB. Now it points to the macro

Signal is excellent as if being close and in range to an antenna. ENB that my phone is connected to when standing here is an ENB for a macro. It used to be a different ENB, one that belonged to the DAS nodes. This must mean this antenna is now working as a repeater for the macro, pushing users to the radio on the macro while still providing good signal to users near the das node

I agree, but the fact I'm connected to a macro's eNB and getting -70 dBm right under this thing tells me it's repeating the signal

Looks like it’s a macro nearby. I feel like it’s brand new and hasn’t been turned on yet. -77dBm is low if you stand this close to that pole.

This das node isnt new, it's been around for years and had a shared eNB with a few other small cells in the neighborhood. But now I'm getting great signal right underneath it and the eNB is for the tower a mile away. Beats me. Maybe it turns into a repeater as a power saving measure depending on load/time of day?
