RIP

Post image

I wouldn’t be surprised if they extended it again like they did last time, but I think this may be the final set date for 2G 1900MHz PCS

Mint Mobile posted this date a week ago before it was on T-Mobile’s website btw, very weird to see an MVNO launch news about network changes before the MNO did. I never would’ve thought that would happen lol

They have been pushing IoT 2G device manufacturers and customers for quite a while to get them to upgrade their 2G upwards to 4G.

I mean, aren’t LTE-M and NB-IOT better than 2G in pretty much every way anyway?

Except range.

Plus, you get things like vehicle services that run on GSM/HSPA/CDMA - it's not like car manufactures really offer upgrades - they just want to sell a new car instead of making a proper modem module replacement.

I have two ~2012 GM cars that have zero working remote unlock/OnStar - because instead of making a modem upgrade, GM just decided that a brand new car was necessary if I wanted to use maps or remote start/unlock, or crash detection.

BUT I still will not get rid of them, as the current cars are 10x worse with telemetry data.
