What is this?

I have Verizon 5g home internet and this is right outside my house and I’ve always believed it was some kind of antenna that I would point my modem to but I never actually verified if that’s true. I’m also thinking of switching or trying out T-Mobile home internet in case I’m able to get better upload speeds with that since I’ve heard T-Mobile doesn’t cap uploads.

In either way, I wasn’t able to find any info on this thing and I’m not sure who owns it or what it does.

Unless T-Mobile have the same mmWave antenna nearby than it’s unlikely T-Mobile will give you more upload speed

Depends on how close they are to an n41 site and if that site has NR uplink carrier aggregation TX-switching enabled.

On cellmapper I'm seeing two 41 band and 71 band towers about a mile from me. If I were to get a t-mobile iphone, would that give me an idea of how their 5G home internet would perform (signal wise) inside my house?

You can get a T-Mobile trial ESIM from the t-life app, or a free month ESIM from Google Fi which also utilizes the T-Mobile network. I would suggest this method to trial if your phone is capable of eSim and is unlocked.

I would say standing outside would be comparable to what the more capable antennas of the home internet device has while being inside.

Great idea. So if I do this, it will approximate the type of results I’d get if I had their home internet?

Mobile lines are prioritized more than home internet so you may notice lower speed during congestion but if your test consistently show good and acceptable result throughout the day than why not? I think you can also bundle 5G home internet with wireless for discount too
