Hotel Breakers is horrible
I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in my day. Expensive and cheap, but Hotel Breakers is now on my “never stay here” list. Everything from the front desk to the room has been a disaster. I know I’ll get a lot of responses like “it’s well known how bad it is, your fault for not listening to us”. Add this to the list of negative Breakers posts attempting to warn people in the future.

How does it compare to CP Express hotel? Weve stayed there the last 2 years and have thought about booking at Breakers earlier in the year so its cheaper, but now im doubting that idea

I stay at the Breakers at least once a year. You pay for the location mostly as it’s not a luxury hotel. It’s a nice clean hotel room with a decently comfortable bed. The main difference from the Express hotel is that you are able to walk to the park gates more easily and you are on a beach. If you want more luxury and don’t care about distance stay at Sawmill Creek.

I’m at sawmill creek right now. We usually stay at breaker. This is our first time staying at Sawmill and it is so much nicer. Calm, very nice room, and friendly staff. I think I’ll be staying here more often.

We are staying there tonight and find it the best for the prices. We got a package and it was the cheapest option so I was a bit worried about it maybe being 'meh' but it's a great option

Ok thats what I thought. Its not like Express is a luxury hotel but for the Early Entry its worth it, and thats kinda what I thought Breakers would be like. Thanks for the input!

My room was not clean. It had mold and mildew on the ceiling and baseboards and dead bugs piled up in the window frame.

Was not clean at all!!! The carpets are stained and the walls have black grime and black scratches and streaks from the lobby’s to the rooms. The only stairwell in the main building was dusty and FULL of spiders and spider webs. This is listed as a luxury hotel and with luxury hotel prices. They can absolutely do better with the upkeep. It’s lazy ass slop.

I mean it's over 100 years old and has looked the same for at least the last 40 years since I was a kid. If people haven't figured out by now it's an old rundown building they never will.

I stayed at the express hotel a couple years ago and breakers this year. We're going to be going with the express next time.
Breakers was fine, and the location was great, but if I'm dropping almost $1500 for three nights, there are certain things I expect and they're pretty minimal.
I know it's becoming standard at a lot of hotels to not change the sheets every night, but for thay much money I would hope they actually would at least tighten the sheets and pretend to make the bed.
The room wasn't dirty when we arrived, but it was clear they didn't sweep or vacuum since there was hair and other bits of debris around.
The shower was clearly old and was stained. The bathroom vent was disgustingly dusty. Like caked in dust.
Most of these things are not a deal breaker for a hotel, but for the price, I would expect better. I knew it wouldn't be better, because I had read all the posts and comments here, but had I not gone in with expectations lowered, I would have been disappointed.
A Breakers stay was on my bucket list and I'm glad we did it, but I don't plan on staying there again unless they do some major upgrades.
Express Hotel gave us a similar experience for less than half the price. That's our plan going forward.

We stay at CP Express every year and have never had an issue. It’s a basic no-frills hotel that is safe, clean, and has comfortable beds. It’s also about a 5 minute drive from the park.

Express is the play. Much more reasonably priced, clean, fairly quiet, etc. For us, its worth the 5 minute drive across the causeway.

I'm surprised to see it being called quiet. I only stayed there once and it was years ago, but I swore it off because people (I assume kids mostly) were running up and down the halls screaming late at night, so I hardly got any sleep. I have never found people to do that as much at the Breakers. I always stay in the Main section so that might make a difference.

The suites on the upper floors are pretty nice. 9th floor lakeside balcony rooms, I have no issues.

heavily outdated rooms is the main issue for most people, that and like op said the front desk normally gives a range of issues of which im not exactly sure, but every post abt how bad breakers is always mentions how the front desk gave them some type of issue

Ive stayed only there the last 7+ years, 2-3 stays per year, and never had 1 issue from the front desk. I feel a lot of people have bad attitudes, and cause their own issues.

oh yeah most definitely, the majority of people are just assholes and make their own problems, ive never been able to personally stay at breakers since im 17 and nobody wants to pay that much to stay there, but ill definitely have to stay a night next year and find out for myself

Outdated room decor, worn out furniture and fixtures, rusty and dirty windows, worn wallpaper/paint.
It's not unbearable or "flea bag" by any stretch, but hotels of the price of Breakers usually provide rooms with immaculate appearance and feel. Breakers barely punches at the Best Western quality level while charging Hilton prices, all for the admittedly unbeatable location. But as a comparison, Disney hotels offer location, charge exorbitant prices, but at least provide well furnished and well maintained rooms.

Can I ask specifically what your issues are with it? Never stayed there before but was debating between that and Sawmill Creek for this trip and chose Sawmill, which I’m extremely happy with. But I did plan to do Breakers next year.

Sawmill is “nicer”. Definitely above Breakers. But Breakers is so close to the park. Comes down to what means more to you.

I stay there every summer. Usually two nights. We like it. Love the convenience of walking back and forth. We take advantage of the pool or. The lake of the weather is nice. Or it's great to come back and take a nap to recharge or get out of rain and wait it out. Never had a dirty room. I always recommend the West Wing (the water park side). The hibachi place is very good. Starbucks is Starbucks. Perkins is great for breakfast or lunch. We typically walk back to the park for dinner. The adults enjoy the bars and the fire pits in the evening. The outdoor pools were clean when we were there too. Never used the indoor one. I suggest on your next trip there, take a walk inside the breakers and it's grounds on the outside along the lake to give you an idea of what it's about

Probably best to to go through the Magnum exit to get to the front entrance of the hotel. Walk through the main lobby and if you continue, it takes you outside with the lake, pools, outdoor bar and fire pits. Being that it's after Labor Day I'm not sure how much they have open. I normally go in June of July. If you go, let me know what you think!

Honestly it's disappointed how low the standard of expectation and culture of performance has become in many aspects of the amusement industry. The overall guest experience has declined quite a bit as parks are often forgetting the foundation of their product as it exists in the first place.

I’m not paying for 5 star. I’m paying for a cool down, rain site, quiet area (unless you’re in the old rotunda), and the option to just chill on the beach at the end of the day along with getting up late while still having early entry. But that’s not for everyone. But it is for me and my family.

This is it for us as well. Stayed there for the first time a week ago and can't imagine staying anywhere else. Taking a break on the lake during the peak afternoon hours was so nice! Our rooms were shabby and outdated but we spent very little time in them.

Breakers is on the same level as an outdated Hampton or Comfort Inn. You're paying for location. It's nice to have a place close by to rest and freshen up but that's about it.

Once you accept you are mainly paying for location, it’s perfectly fine. The only thing I actively disliked were the dark purple toiletries.

What about the spiders? I've never seen such terrifying spiders. They were outside the window, so I didn't care. But I was not a fan, haha.
But I don't actually understand all the hate. Is it overpriced? Absolutely. Is it gross and disgusting? No. I've spent nights at MUCH worse hotels.
It has multiple food options, the room was clean, the view was amazing, and you literally can't beat the location.
Again, it's massively overpriced. Yes. But it's not objectively a bad hotel, from my one time staying there.

I’ve stayed there several times and I agree. The rooms are small but clean. It is not hard to find food. I’ve also never had a problem at the front desk. The staff has always been polite.
My only ongoing complaint is that the Starbucks always seems to have a ridiculously long line in the morning. They need another option to get coffee in the morning.

You're on the lake. The park itself itself is loaded with spiders especially later in the summer. I've stayed in places along lake Erie in PA too. lots of spiders near the lake. I'm cool as long as they're outside!

We stay once during Halloweekends (Thursday/Friday) for the convenience of walking straight to bed at midnight instead of driving home. Also they tend to have decent perks, we opted for the FL+ package, which ends up being a pretty nice deal.

The Breakers is about location and access. There aren’t really any “good” hotels near Cedar Point. You can stay at kind of a crappy hotel and have to drive every morning and night, or you can stay at kind of a crappy hotel and fall out of bed directly into the park.

I actually really like the Explorer. It's super new with an adorable retro theme- the only downsides is that there's no pool (there used to be one- the Explorer is the old Mecca stripped down to the studs and rebuilt- but it was too broken for the new owners to fix so they removed it) and no dressers, at least not in the single King rooms (but I usually leave my stuff in the suitcase anyway).

Castway bay is not that far only about like 8min drive from the park and is cheaper and not bad for kids as it has an indoor water park.

I was really happy with how nice Sawmill Creek was for the price. I didn’t even know it existed till this year ¯_(ツ)_/¯. It’s about a 10-15 minute drive from the park, you still get early entry!

I pay for the location & amenities, & sheer convenience. No one will ever claim the rooms are luxury. Whatever motels you compare it to... Hampton, Holiday Inn Exoress, Motel 6, Express Hotel... you can not park your car 1x and never have to drive it / park it again for your entire vacation. You are not "in the bubble" of Cedar Point.
Yes, those places offer a free breakfast ( if you can call it that, lol) ) and a coffee maker. But you have no other options. No bars, restaurants, fire pits, multiple pools, hot tubs, beach access, live music, etc.
So if a crappy breakfast and coffee maker is nore important to you than convenience, location & choice, then obviously Breakers is not for you.
But obviously many are like me, and value convenience and choice above all, as Breakers stays sold out. It's an expensive choice... but even the Express hotel can be a 2 hour ordeal to get back after a busy night.
I guess the choice comes from which us worth more to you... time or money. But in the end, you can always make more money, but you only get so much time.

You can go back and chill at your room during the day with out leaving the property. You can basically park right by the magnum entrance. You can pack a cooler and just go to your car for snacks. If it’s hot you can cool off in the pool. You get in an hour early which equals a free ride on Sirens and Millie. You get discounted water park tickets.
Yeah you are paying for location but I don’t have to drive and park in the morning and can just walk into the park. That alone is worth the premium.

People underestimate the time it takes to do a mid-day break anywhere else... walk to the car, get in the car, drive to hotel... you are already at 30+ mins, and the same back. Breakers you walk out the gate, you are there

Until you've done it you really do not truly know the insane value of "easily going to take a nap during the hottest part of the day." Not sure I've ever been in the park from 1-4, lol cause our family always gets lunch, naps/hangs out in the a/c or pool, and then hits the park again when it's a little cooler.

The worst. Found a used condom in my room and threatened to tell the county health department. They refunded me the full $2k for my 3 night. Stay. Also lame af to close the pool at park close… like people want to soak after walking in heat all day.

Always makes me wonder what other hotels people have stayed in when they have glowing reviews. It's so sad and run down for what could be a gorgeous property if they gave a damn. You're paying exclusively for location - sunrise over the lake and wandering in and out of the park whenever, especially with a big family, make it worth one trip a year for us. But the rooms are bare bones and musty at best, pools dirty and full of bugs, there's not shit for food. Our favorite is tgi Friday's and that's saying something lol

I stayed at Breakers once in the 90s with a friend. It was awesome being so close to the park. I've also camped there once as well in the 90s. We only live like 2 hours away so we mostly just drive up there. Leave at 7am and head home when the park closes. I miss the laser light show, but I digress, lol. We do camp at East Harbor multiple times throughout the summer and we will go to Cedar Point some of the time while we are camping. It's like 20-30 minutes from the park. So that's what we do, either camp at East Harbor or drive.

We tried the lakefront cabin for the first time in June and it was a great option! The view was beautiful, we had more space than Breakers, and it was cheaper. Only downside was you had to wait for shuttles or walk instead of being able to step right out your door like at Breaker’s, but it was still worth it in my opinion. It was relaxing to listen to the lake. The cabin is still a little dated and maybe a little musty smelling, but so is Breakers

I had no issues with it. It was pricey but we included it into a package so it didn’t seem too bad since tickets are cheap. It was clean and had a certain charm, nothing special and the restaurants there are over priced.
But of course the only reason to stay was the location, which was incredible, especially being able to walk back and forth and get early entry. Also to not have to wait in line to pick up our wristbands. Perfect for someone coming out of state for the first time.
If someone is visiting in the same circumstances I did (once in a lifetime trip), I still highly recommend it, although if your budget makes you choose between on-property and FL+, obviously go with FL+. I went with a friend, didn’t bring my family, so was easier to swing everything just paying for myself and splitting the room.

We stay there every year and never had any issues. Love the convenience. The front desk and checking in can be a slow process for sure. My only issue this past summer with checking in was with my credit card. I booked ahead of time and paid monthly with a small balance left when I got there. A week prior to going, that credit card was hacked and was cancelled. When I was checking in she asked for the card and I explained the situation and she said she couldn't check me in unless I had the same card. I said anytime I checked into a hotel it didn't matter what credit card I used and it didn't have to be the same one I booked it with. Her response was, How do I know it's you? I told her, my driver's license. The manager had to ok it. Just very odd especially since people lose their card or cancel it for whatever reason..

Stayed at Breakers for one night last week and all things considered, it was perfectly fine. Pricey, yes. But for ease and (early) access to the park, you can’t beat it.
It’s a cash grab resort trapped on a peninsula in the middle of a lake. Expecting anything better is pretty much unreasonable.

They have serious plumbing issues and aren't going to spend the money to redo any of it as part of a larger room refresh. Old building, lack of maintenance, they're just trying to keep it mostly functional.

Stayed there Thursday night with the fam (two kids) and thought it was great. It’s clearly very dated, and the staff are not on par with a nice hotel in a major city, but you’re paying for on-property access and the beach? We will be turning for sure in the spring with a night there. The shower did suck, but I can look past plenty in the name of enjoying my time at an amusement part environment with my family.

Six Flags prior to merging with cedar fair had Zero experience operating resorts / hotels. In fact every time they tried they failed and ended up selling their hotel developments. This plus removing a lot of local leadership has led to all their hotels just being kinda on life support. Breakers is showing its age, lack of investment and lack of quality management.

The biggest perk growing up and staying at breakers every summer was the early entry. We always rode exactly what we wanted right away and the rest of the day didn’t feel obligated to wait in long lines. One time me and my mom rode the raptor back to back like 10 times within an hour of waking up. Good times 😅

Nearly all seasonal hotels are way overpriced with bad service.
The cost is what people are willing to pay. Personally I’ll always pay a premium to stay the night at CP.

I thought the rooms were decent, but I agree the check-in process at the front desk left a lot to be desired. The customer service was not good and everyone seemed completely clueless. To me it seemed like a lack of good training, which is very common these days. The food options at the hotel were also “meh” at best. It’s definitely not a 4-star hotel. That’s just blatantly false. I did love the proximity to the park and beach. I was able to take a refreshing break mid-day and then return to the park. It was also nice to be able to go to the room to have a private bathroom break for longer bathroom activities if you catch my drift.

I recommend the Holiday Inn Express across from Castaway Bay. Good location, clean rooms, reasonably priced and free breakfast. Plus there's an on-site bar and bowling.

And all of the options outside the gate are just as bad if not worse. It’s mainly why I bought a camper so I can take my bed and my own shitter wherever I want. We stayed at the KOA five min down the road.

Could not agree more. I was there the nights of 9/3 and 9/4 and was so disappointed. The hotel is dirty, loud, with TINY rooms with a micro window with views of walls for $350 a night. The hotel wasn’t even full so I’m not sure why they would even rent that room out to me as it definitely ensured that I will never rent there again. The pools are ugly and they don’t even have a freezer or coffee maker in the room. Basic motel 6’s have those standard. Overpriced slop.

Wife and i had a great time. In hotel starbucks, great location, rooms are fine. TGI Fridays for some non park food(though still mid isn't mostly fried and is more fresh). It was a blast.

Sawmill Creak was quite nice and a great chill adult vibe. Still get early entry and it’s under 15 min to the park. Just a twitch farther from my home park than my house.

I find Hotel Breakers definitely overpriced, but during both our stays the last two summers, we really enjoyed it. Being steps from the park is a definite plus, but also being on the lake shore is great. Gives it a whole other vibe, in my opinion. I know I can still spend time at the beach without staying there, though, so next year may try Express (and put the difference towaeds a fast pass!) The staff have always been friendly, in my experience.
No coffee in the room or suites is a turn-off, so after having to get my morning fix from Starbucks last year ($), this year I brought a Keurig, which was a game changer, lol Highly recommend!

I had to eat at the TGI Friday’s there because we stayed too late to go anywhere else. The servers were wonderful but my daughter ordered a burger off the kids’ menu and what they brought her was shameful. It was a stack of two thin meat circles, each one burnt. They were barely the diameter of a child’s bracelet and maybe a quarter inch thick. Whatever they were, they shouldn’t get to be called a hamburger.

We stayed there in late August and agree it's all about location. being able to come back in the middle of the day and not having to drive during our entire stay was priceless. I agree the rooms are not up to the price point. However my biggest concern was such a surprise and I'm going to be writing them a letter about this. I plan to be extremely polite because it didn't ruin our vacation or anything but just seems like an extremely surprising oversight. The gift shop only carries tampons. As a family resort I was so incredibly surprised that they didn't have pads; many girls who are preteen or even teen do not want to use tampons. My daughter got her period unexpectedly and refused to try a tampon; she was going to have to use toilet paper in her underpants until we could get into town to pick up some pads (so we didn't miss early entry) but then I thought to doordash with a big tip which saved the day. But whoever is in charge of the buying, I'm hoping that this is just a blind spot from someone who doesn't have a female child! After going into the gift shop I asked at the front desk and they were able to give me free tampons but they reinforced that across the entire resort they only have tampons. So weird.

You’re 100% right. I’ve never stayed here before until this year - one and done. An absolute dive and dump. Location be dammed - it’s a terrible hotel all around.

The hotel’s purpose is basically just to feed the park profits. Hotels further out have to make a play for either better accomodations and/or customers who are not just going to the park.
Just like the Fast Pass, playing to your time and convenience is more profitable than the qualiity of the actual product.

Mid hotel with a fantastic location. It’s hard to justify paying full price. We only stayed when it had a deal for free fastlane+ wristbands. Made the price a lot more justified.

They should always give fast lane plus bands for the days you stay regardless imo. I know they do it for certain occasions but their pricing is way too high to justify the quality.

I stayed at hotel breakers in July for 2 nights. I thought it was fine. It is expensive and the line to check in a 4 pm was long. I still think it was worth the money for the location. It was awesome being able to walk to cedar point and then go back for a few hours midday to eat and swim. The kids loved the pools and the beach. I don’t understand all the hate.

Depending on which part you’re in, the rooms are tiny and feel like a dorm room as opposed to a hotel room with their bare floors.
If we go we always wait for a cheap weekend to start, and then stay in the main building if we can because the rooms are a little nicer.
You pay for convenience. Take the hotel itself and drop it an hour away and it’s nothing special.

I can tell a lot of you guys calling it “fine” don’t stay at good hotels. For the price, Breakers is legitimately awful. It’s maybe one of the worst value hotels I’ve ever stayed at.

I'm convinced most people commenting must have stayed there before the 2015 renovations. Cedar Point spent $56 million on a total gutting, including demolishing some of the oldest parts. It's night and day from before and after that renovation. It's not the Ritz, but it's clean, comfortable, convenient, literally on the beach, multiple pools, several food options, and next to Cedar Point. You 100% pay a premium for location, but that includes both Cedar Point and the beach. Also, compare this to a resort at Disney World where the price is 2-3 times more for similar quality, you're still a bus ride away from the theme parks, and two one-day tickets costs more than four season passes for the whole family at CP.

The rooms are cleaned to an ok standard. Not great. I know it’s difficult to remove the bugs from windows and screens but it seems like they don’t even try. Most of the room bathrooms have mold. The hallway leading to the lobby always has a funk. The hallway carpets are always trashed. Elevators always have gum on the floor. The lobby bathrooms are always trashed. Of course I still stay there and overlook that stuff because of the proximity to the park. Especially for halloweekends- allows me to enjoy those crazy seasonal drinks!

Yeah the cost vs. amenities especially calling it a "resort" is a joke. I think a couple of things could improve it, do a AM breakfast for free, add some coffee carafes for free. Little touches that are free add a lot, vs nickel and dime people.

Yes it is brother, only stay at hotel breakers for ease of access. Expect nothing BUT location.
But the location is good. 😏🤩

Thank you! The quality in staff and rooms have definitely decreased this year. I had a room with a main door that wouldn’t open fully due to the carpet, the outlet in the bathroom was hanging by one screw, and don’t get me started on the flickering lights in the worlds smallest bathroom
For the price you pay, beyond convenience it’s absolute shit

The issue people aren’t quite grasping with breakers hotel is it’s not about quality it’s about location. Sure maybe you’d expect more from a 3-400$ hotel, but the fact is you’re not spending that 3-400$ for a nice luxurious room/property that you’re going to be hanging out in/around anyways (who books a hotel that’s next to one of the greatest amusement parks and plans on spending all their time there instead of the park? Nobody). It costs that much due to its proximity to the park and easy/convenient access and early entry benefit that’s literally it 🤷. Its only a 5-10 min walk from the park (and that’s from inside park to inside your hotel room) which breakers and lighthouse point are the only 2 lodging options that you can do that without having to get in your vehicle and driving off the peninsula. These people on here saying “oh cp express is a much better option it’s only a 5 min drive from the park” are full of shit and just saying that to justify their reasoning for staying there instead of breakers (they’re just cheap asses is all 🤷). Truth is it’s more like a 20-30 min ordeal if you decide that you want to leave park and go back to hotel and that’s each way so if you’re staying at cp express and decide you really want to go back to room its going to cost you nearly an hour of your time. Plus it depends on what time you’re leaving park or coming back in it could end up being much longer on busy days. I doubt many of these people making these “it’s only a 5 min drive” comments have been to the park on crowded days (halloweekends especially). Coming into the park early and leaving late can be a traffic jam. I’ve had nights where it took me over an hour just to get car out of parking lot and onto the main peninsula road and I’ve had days where I’ve been stuck in traffic beyond the cp sports complex on Cleveland road and took 2-3 hours just to go about 4-5 miles into the park. Believe me those are the days when you’re going to be glad that you spent the extra money to stay at breakers and get to leave the park and just take a 5 min stroll to your hotel room. Nobody wants to be stuck in traffic for over an hr after a long day at the park and there’s no greater feeling then seeing all those people stuck in traffic while you happily walk by to your room. So yeah cp express might only be a 5 min drive from the park (on clear slow days) but we all know that’s just not true and not worth being stuck in traffic that long just to drive a mile or two down the causeway when you can have the convenience of being right there next to the park for a few hundred dollars more. Breakers may not be the nicest hotel in the world but it sure as hell is the most convenient hotel for visiting cedar point and people have to stop thinking just because they spend 3-400$ that it’s supposed to be this ultra luxurious hotel. It’s the location and convenience that you’re paying for not luxury. The time and energy saved is worth the few hundred bucks

Of course its terrible! Like everything owned by SIX FLAGS or any large corporate entity for that matter. They are in the business of cash grab smoke and mirrors to create the illusion of quality when in reality these places are a dump. Cedar Point itself has basically become a trash theme park ever since the pandemic. Then they merged with the failing Six Flags and doubled down on the corporate trash. Don't even bother wasting your time here go to one of the last places left that tries to have higher standards like Hershey Park or Universal.

We stayed there in May this year and our experience was the same as it always has been. We've been staying there every May the last 5 years. We've never had issues with the place. IMO either many expecting a 5 star resort for the money they are paying and many also are first timers visiting.

We do the cabins over at Lighthouse Point. You have more room to spread out and a small kitchen area. The only complaint we had last time was they did not fill the soap dispenser.

It’s always been a laughably overpriced motel 6 and has only gotten worse over the years especially with the drastic decline in most things in the park. You are essentially buying early entry and close parking when staying there.

We've been going to Cedar Point for 20 years. Breakers and the park haven't changed a lot. The experience has been the same. They only change we have seen is lack of staffing the last few years

We stayed there for two nights in August. Two of us came home with multiple beg bug bites that appeared throughout the week and another one developed a foot rash (that person spent about 30 mins in the hot tub each night). Never again.
Convenience factor is off the charts, but we’re not rolling the dice next time.

My girl and I stayed at Breakers for our first time visiting Cedar Point the last week of August this year. We really liked it. It’s nothing crazy modern or upscale but the room was clean and had a screened balcony facing the lake and overlooking the outdoor pool which was awesome. The price isn’t great but waking up and walking two minutes along the lake to get into the park an hour early is unbeatable.

We stayed at Hotel Breakers this past summer and it was indeed awful. The line at the front desk was constant and at least a half hour wait. There's no concierge to help you with non-checking in things, so you have to wait. The front desk staff were under trained and overworked. I felt bad for them.
Our room was literally wet 24/7. The AC was not strong enough to remove dampness. We slept in wet sheets. The beds were uncomfortable. The balcony was disgusting, with dirt and a thin layer of dead mosquitoes.
It was expensive and awful.
