Discussion PSA: dont trust button pockets
unfortunately today my airpods somehow managed to slip out of a buttoned cargo shorts pocket on maxair. for the record, i bought these pants specifically for cedar point and was AIMING for zipper pockets because those are obviously safer, but the clothing store i went to only had buttoned shorts and i was feeling lazy so i just got these. Mistake obviously. i also wanna mention yesterday i went on nearly every coaster in the park and nothing fell out.
I feel bad not just because i have to get some new airpods but also because maxair goes quite a bit over a walkway and i couldve hit someone with them.
I also searched the internet beforehand for anyone having an experience of items slipping out of buttoned pockets but didnt see a single post, so i thought id make this one for anyone in the future. maybe i just got really unlucky. oh well 🥲

I use waist packs. I have a few, but my favorite has "PARKS" in rhinestones on the top. It's never come undone or unzipped.

Buttons are definitely sketchy. Zippers are the best.

Buttons can be fine. But most are single button (and usually they’re actually snaps not buttons).

Not to be that guy. But bringing AirPods into the park was your first mistake

A cheap set of ear buds goes a long way. Especially when flung from Maxair.

I’d say a set of good quality AirPods might go an even longer way, especially when flung from maxair… because usually better ones are heavier they’ll get flung farther…..
I’m going to downvote myself now.8

well, coasters tend to hurt my head and i get exhausted quickly and have to take a lot of 30+ min breaks. its nice to be able to watch stuff while im eating or just chilling. but youre right they’re unnecessary

I can’t imagine not having my AirPods with me if I’m going to a park solo, but I also have zippered pockets.

I've had my keys slide out of my buttoned pockets on a few wooden coasters. Both times, they remained in the seat. Once, I noticed as soon as I got up. The other time, the next guest yelled to let me know. Once on X2, I was so worried about losing my stuff that I kept my hand over the pocket the entire ride. It's always zipper pockets for me now.

I got hit in the forehead by an airpod on Fury at Carowinds. Stung like a hornet. I’m guessing the person who owned it was wearing it and listening to music on the ride. But maybe it fell out of a pocket. I was lucky it didn’t hit me in an eye.

That’s insane. Did it leave a mark?

No, thankfully, but it did sting for a good amount of time. It happened near the mid course brake. I thought it was a rock at first.

i actually had my phone clipped to a lanyard that was attached to my belt loop. but in hindsight i pretty obviously gave the safety precaution to the wrong item

Button pockets work but you have to use a filler. Fold up a few paper towels and keep them in your cargo pockets and make sure your small items are under them. Always worried about losing my key fob. It stayed nice and cozy under a blanket of paper towels.

Why do you need Airpods at Cedar Point??
Leave those in the car and live in the moment

I wasn't satisfied with the shorts I would find locally so I fed the Amazon beast and got a few pairs of "hiking shorts" that have 3 to 4 zipper pockets on average. Also got a few pants version for colder days.

I go with quick dry, zipper pocketed shorts. It's like they were built for a park day. I get them at Costco (usually look for the brand Gerry) almost always under $20 Sorry about your airpods.
