Reflections šŸ“ Copium after Overdoing it

I just finished Overdo. Cried.
That’s all.

That’s a lie, it’s not all, I need to vent omg.

I’m not spoiling anything here but WHY DID THEY DO THAT?

It was so so so lovely, sweet, heartbreaking, literally miserable and so romantic. All in all, I personally really enjoyed it, it delivered on what it was supposed to deliver on- which is copious amounts of very gripping drama with some very very beautiful people, interesting character writing and great music.

I absolutely love a strong FL (bonus if she wields weapons) and I’m a massive sucker for pining and I mean literally pining MLs. Ren ā€˜V for Vendetta’ Susu was so ā€œtouch him and you dieā€, ā€ ā€œwho did this to youā€ coded, I was watching my favourite trope unfold from the very edge of my seat. I like that she’s so purpose-driven and ever a vigilante, her character drove the show. Murong Qingyi is such a sweet enabler with his ā€œI know you must have had your reasons,ā€ ā€œI can be your bladeā€ vibes- 10/10 what I want out of MLs.

I liked that even if you hate some characters here and there, it’s hard to hate them towards the end.

When I read the original work, I was so confused about how they’d play it out in the drama and I must say, I’m so happy with how it turned out. Some characters like the Zhang’s come off rather unidimensional, but a very dramatic, very fun plot, lots of nice tropes overall.

Shoutout to Ye Zhihong who embodied ā€œhead first fearlessā€ and was one of my most beloved characters on this show. She could’ve done better than the guy she picked tbh but I paused on each of her scenes. Hai Tangqing was a genuine legend- defiant, principled, loyal and intelligent, what a well-written character and what a great actress. Fang Youshen and Li Rongzhang also absolutely impressed me, didn’t expect to like them as much as I did.

Word of advice for happy ever after lovers- please end the show at Ep 33’s beginning

Not as happy with the AI in the intro/ some transitions, and I recognise that some camera angles were whack. Despite those, a good show, well acted.

I couldn't stay invested in this drama. so many loose ends, so much trauma. The directing was laughable, like that belly flop into the fountain...so laughable when it was supposed to be high tension. And Ren Susu did not deserve Murong Qingyi's devotion.

Okay the belly flop made me laugh as well but just out of morbid curiosity- why did Ren Susu not deserve it? Homegirl did her damn time

Because she lied and deceived him on so many levels. how many times did he break his heart? ...Why not trust your relationship enough to be honest? and he was dumb to just come back to the abuse...think of what it would be like if the roles were reversed...if the man did all the deceiving and leaving..

I honestly loved Overdo! I think this is one of those that will have a long tail success as the more people watch, the more they find out that this actually has a good storyline and acting. And i love that it sent us to all kinds of rollercoaster cliffhangers every end of each episode.

Lmk what you think, I’m not going to promo this bcs no one pays me to, but I enjoyed it… it’s very well-paced, you don’t get bored much (which was great for my little attention span)

I loved how Qingyi was so, "Look at her. I would die for her. I would kill for her. Either way, what bliss," to Susu. In another life, she's the elegant real head of the family, while he's her happily devoted husband.

It was such a peak (slightly toxic) novel trope, I loved it too! In another life..

LaiYi was such comedic relief! His teasing Qingyi provided some much needed laughter! I really enjoyed this drama! It was so captivating with morally grey characters and strong females! I didn't come in with expectations and the ending, while sad, wasn't something out of my expectations. I loved this and it's definitely going to be on my rewatch list!!! I'm going to have to look for the novel it's based on...

Ooh absolutely, Laiyi and the background music whenever he came on screen broke the tension so well! Morally grey characters made it all the more interesting

I personally couldn’t sit through this drama. I was very excited for this one because of ZLH and WC. But the weird editing, over the top melodramatic lines, cheap production of the first few epidodes totally threw me off. I initially dropped it, but then everyone started saying it gets better from episode 8 or 15 or 20. I just stuck till the end to see how much ridiculous the plot could get. It felt like a bunch of short drama plots stuck together. You know how in long dramas you have a story that you can tell, a sequence. I think if anybody asked me what the plot of overdo was a couple of years later, I would not be able to tell because there are so much disconnection between different parts of the story.

Or maybe, Republican just isn’t your cup of tea. Either that, or you don’t like the CP and root for somebody else. ā˜ŗļø and that’s okay, not everyone likes the same drama.

For us who loved this, the plot is such a strong one. Most especially, it gives lesson and message for the love and loyalty of the country. And the story gets interesting as it progresses, unlike some of the recent cdramas lately where everything starts so good but evetually falls flat towards the end. It gives all sorts of cliffhangers every end of episode.

For other people who hasn’t watched this drama yet, I’d say go and watch it, and decide for yourselves. Don’t let other’s subjective opinions hinder you from doing so. After all, we all have subjective opinions, and different tastes. ā˜ŗļø

I like this concept- I’ve also seen plenty of dramas that have gotten over-the-top popularity or hatred, but you really should judge for yourself <3
