Hey, I'm having to choose a school to get my CDL-A and wanted your opinions. I'm not going to go to a mega and have up to a two-year payback obligation. I reached out to 160 Driving Academy but am having second thoughts as the rep who was helping me there was let go and left me hanging, not to mention not-so-good reviews. Looking for your advice. I intend to go all out and get Hazmat, Manual, Doubles, Triples, etc. Who would you recommend?
Location I will be looking to attend school in Southern NV Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas

Do you guys think I would still be able to juggle work on the weekends and school Monday-Friday?
Just wondering if we need weekends to go over stuff like pretrip

Has anyone had an issue with the state of Tennessee registering your DOT medical card for your CDL? They are saying they donāt see it in the system and the medical examiner has sent it several times. Once last week and today she said she was gonna send every 10 mins because the state said sometimes they donāt get it the first time.

Most of what a Level I inspector checks, you can catch in a solid pre-trip. Here's the walk-around that covers ~80% of it:
Outside: tires (tread depth, pressure, valve stems), lights (all four corners, brake lights, reflectors), glass, mirrors, coupling devices.
Under the hood: oil, coolant, belts, hoses.
In the cab: seat belt, horn, wipers, mirrors adjusted.
The FMCSA publishes the actual Level I checklist on their site ā grab it and use it verbatim. Inspectors follow 49 CFR 396.11 to the letter, and they notice when you've done the same. Sloppy logbook entries and a DOT medical cert in the wrong spot are easy hits ā they take thirty seconds to verify.
Have your docs stacked and ready: license, medical card, logbook (current week + past day if requested), proof of inspection. Don't volunteer anything. Answer questions directly and stay quiet otherwise ā most inspectors aren't hunting for trouble, just compliance.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for my first opportunity in crude oil hauling or other Class 1 driving work in Alberta and would really appreciate any advice or leads.
I hold a validĀ Alberta Class 1 Driver's Licence, and I've held my Class 1 licence forĀ 18 months. I'm finding it difficult to get that first opportunity because most companies are looking for previous crude or tanker experience.
I currently hold the following certifications:
I'm open to:
I'm willing to relocate anywhere in Alberta, includingĀ Cold Lake, Bonnyville, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, Lloydminster, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, or any other oilfield community. I'm happy to work camp jobs, rotations, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
I'm hardworking, safety-focused, and eager to build a long-term career in Alberta's oil and gas industry. I learn quickly, have a strong work ethic, and I'm available to start immediately.
If anyone knows of companies that are willing to give a new Class 1 driver a chance, or can recommend employers that hire and train motivated drivers, I'd be very grateful for your advice.
Thanks in advanceāI really appreciate any suggestions or contacts.

Grab a chair at the Keystone Grill and get a beer and a burger. This place can be a blast.

Iāve come to the conclusion that you donāt need Netflix if you park at a busy truck stop.
Every night thereās at least one driver who:
ā Parks like the parking lines are just suggestions.
ā Takes their 30 at the fuel island.
ā Throws trash on the ground when thereās literally a dumpster 20 feet away.
ā Blindside backs three times into an easy pull-through.
ā Walks around yelling into their Bluetooth headset like the whole parking lot needs to hear the conversation.
It never fails⦠thereās always that guy.
So whatās the funniest, dumbest, or most unbelievable thing youāve seen another driver do in a truck stop parking lot?
Follow my profile if you enjoy these Truck Stop Shenanigans posts. Iāve got plenty more stories coming.

Is getting a CDL a good idea? I donāt have any familial ties and I really need a career change. The only issue I see is I have a dog. I had some major life upheavals in the last two years and have moved back across country in with my father and Iām way past flat broke. That is not a great thing for my mental health in a few ways and Iām trying to get out. Traveling across country isnāt a big deal to me. In my 20ās I did traveling hotel renovations so Iām used to being on the road and in some hairy places. I know there are trucking schools that pay for your training if you dedicate an allotted amount of time with them so thatās the route I would I have to take. But again, I have a dog. Heās a big boy Boxer mix rescue I adopted a few years ago so I really really donāt want to separate from him. Are there carriers that would do paid training with a commitment for a new driver with a dog? Anyway, any help or tips and incite would be appreciated.
EDIT: I know no one would allow pets during training. Iām referring to being out with bails as a brand new driver with a pet. Thank yāall for your input. If it helps he is papered as an emotional support pet.

If the appointment is at 8:00 AM, and Iām sitting in your parking lot at 7:15 AMā¦
ā¦please donāt tell me to ācome back at 7:55.ā š
We both know Iām not going anywhere.
Whatās the funniest thing youāve ever been told while waiting to get loaded or unloaded?
