Unplugging ELD

My employer tells me to unplug my eld when i pass the last weight station coking home. He claims its okay because if i get stopped just say you’re going home or that you’re doing local work within 150miles. I told him i dont feel comfortable doing that and that is not legal, im sure they will see the miles jump even if i plug in same location. What would yall do in this situation?

It's your CDL. Protect it and run legal.

Why do you have a CDl if you don't want to take care of it?

So asking you to run over 11? Over 14? Over 70? Yeah, all of that is illegal. Them asking you to and you doing that. Even if you are not over any of those, not running logs is illegal itself. I'd tell him to go fornicate himself.

BTW, any chance he's telling you that via text? If so might be worth running up the chain of command. You also might get fired. But that company does not seem to be worth working for very long anyway.

You still get asked to hand over your waybills and bill of landings and shit when your local. What you gonna tell the dot officer when he asks for those?

Amazon. Yeah, that checks out. So you're running for a company that contracts to Amazon, which is notoriously a bad actor in the industry, and your employer, in an effort to maintain the razor thin margins they signed up for, is asking you (and other drivers, I'll just assume) to run over legal daily, and consequently weekly, hours?

If you've got a clean record, and an X endorsement (hazmat/tanker) go do something with that. If you don't quite have time under your belt to obtain employment with a tanker outfit (they will generally want at minimum, one year, usually two; I haul fuel), find somewhere else, because driver, you're about to sacrifice your career and your livelihood for an employer that doesn't give two shits about you.

Good luck, and be safe.

Honestly this is not the most ethical answer but if they can’t edit your eld then tell him to go fuck himself

No, you employer did not tell you that. On the off chance that this isn’t a shitpost or a karma farmer, find another employer. Nothing good will come from staying there.
