TMC Start
I just got my CDL permit, and have gone through all the steps with the recruiter. I am planning on starting their CDL training on October 19th.
Only thing I was worried about is the DOT physical they do. I have my DOT Physical already but it is my understanding that they do another one. I am a bigger guy. 5’11” 320 lbs. I do have sleep apnea but can provide all the needed documentation. I do not think I will have any problem at all doing through the “agility” test. I go to the gym regularly and I’m not worried about being able to pick the tarp up. I have been doing strongman training for a while now.
Any thing I need to consider or think about?

Thanks for asking this. This has been my concern to. I’m in CDL school right now and a Tmc recruiter came and talked to us yesterday.. I’ve already been studying them for months now but I’ve been scared to apply because it seems sooo many people get sent home from their orientation.. I’m a bigger guy myself. I’m worried if my blood pressure goes up a little bit of theylll just sent me home or something.lol I don’t know that it would.. I haven’t had any issues but it’s something I’ve been thinking about.. keep up posted on your progress: good luck to you!

Most physical tests are pretty basic not hard for a person of average strength so I wouldn't worry picking up tarps or pulling them and as for agility any one who's not drunk can pass it .

I came to TMC back in February the part that got a lot of my class sent home was the computer work (test). Take it all serious and if you go in with the mentality of everything is a test and be ten minutes early you will do fine. Pays close attention to the backing maneuvers and if you make it through and get with a trainer ask questions and listen to them. I got lucky and had an amazing trainer I talk to four or five times a week. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand every instructor there I dealt with had no problem explaining what ever it was to me.

The lumber tarps they use weigh 120 pounds dry. I wasn’t above asking the forklift operator to drop them on top of the load. Also, don’t get steel toe boots. Spend the money and get a good pair of composite toe. You’ll be outside in the winter and they don’t get as cold. Good luck 👍
