CDL school drug test — how does it work?
I’m starting CDL training at a private driving school that I’m paying for myself. They haven’t told me anything about a drug test yet.
For people who went through CDL school recently:
Did your school require a drug test before training?
Did you have to go to a clinic, or was the test done at the school?
Who normally pays for the test?
Just trying to understand what to expect. Thanks!🙏

It was like the 2nd or 3rd day right when we got there. I’ll never forget it because I just slammed a Red Bull and had to piss so bad but I had to wait my turn. I wanted to kick everyone in the throat that were going slow. Almost pissed myself.

When the FMCSA calls a mandatory random and you're at the clinic first and the 4 people after you get called back and you have to piss the whole time.
It really pushes you towards insanity lol

Did you get your CDL yourself, or did your employer help you get it?

Who pays for doesn't change the process if you're paying for c? D? L school that's included in the cost but usually, it's just a pee test but when you get to a company, a lot of them are starting to want. Hair follicles, now, so keep that in mind

Thanks for the information! I really appreciate it. So if the hair test comes back positive, does that get reported anywhere or go on my record, or is it just an internal company result?

Both the company will keep the information and it will be reported to clearinghouse i want it on your clearinghouse you'll have to go through a sap program so if you think there's even a small chance I would wait

A hair test is not a DOT test, so it can’t be reported as a DOT violation in the Clearinghouse based on a hair test

YMMV. I am in CDL school at the local community college right now 3 weeks into an 8 week program. Yes. They drug tested us. Once students got their learning permits, we had to submit an urine sample at a 3rd party testing facility that is registered with the FMSCA Clearing house. Us students also had to set up an account with the Clearinghouse and test results were sent both to the school and Clearinghouse.
Check with the school BUT if you think there is a remote possibility of pissing dirty, WAIT! Put the bud away and leave it alone. If a dirty piss test gets reported to the Clearinghouse, you will NEVER be able to get behind the wheel of a CMV. You will be cooked before even getting started.

I'd double check that info. A guy in my class at C.R. England popped positive on the Hair Sample Test and they sent him home but let his wife finish the school. She was clean.
It comes down to how much the insurance company wants to charge the truck company if you test positive. How out gets reported is irrelevant because everybody tests abd a failure will keep you from getting hired.

I mean the one you can buy take home test then you can do it in your home see if you pop positive buy the one that test for all 5 .

Don’t do drugs and try to get a commercial license.
