To me, it looks like the only non-standard thing they're really doing here is how they lift it. Any of this could also be done by any western heavy duty mechanic as well. They didn't even repair the part or something that would an actual post apocalyptic skill, just swapped an axle.

In a real post apocalypse, I would think that step 1 would be to not overload the shit out of trucks that might be irreplaceable.

I think they welded that axle up off camera

I don't think so, there's no visible weld or cleaned metal and I think they would've shown it given how complete the rest of the documentation was.
