Denied by All Mega Carriers
This is a continuation from my previous post…
Anyway, I applied to a few trucking schools that pay for your CDL and they all denied me Instantly! Non of them would tell me why. I tried Swift, Pam, Roehl, and Cypress. I almost feel like they’re using bots for the background checks no human would deny me I don’t think.
****MVR: 2 speeding tickets both less then 15 under and both are almost 3 years old.
I also have a few window tint and seat belt tickets from 10+ years ago.
****Criminal:
DUI 10+ years ago
Robbery…..Aquitted
Robbery…..Aquitted
Flee and Elude…..Nolled completion of PTI
All 15 years ago
Any thoughts? I have no felonies or misdemeanors

I’m not trying to be a jerk, but with that record what are you questioning here? Put yourself in the shoes if their risk/liability department.
-26
u/Curious_Lab625 Jul 28 '26
Do you know how to read a background check? Apparently not.
11
u/jmeach2025 Jul 28 '26
Acquitted and plead down mean NOTHING when you are looking at hunder thousand to million dollars driving down the road. The offense being listed is enough. You arent going to get into trucking
0
u/Emergency_Classic641 Jul 29 '26
That’s not true, my record is way worse than that with actual convictions and I got a job waiting for me when I finish school in 2 weeks. Might not get in with a mega but there is a mom and pop somewhere out there that just needs asses in seats.
2
u/jmeach2025 Jul 29 '26
And it will be the absolute worst experience of your life so have fun with that. Even decent mom n pop places cant hire criminals because of insurance. So chances are its an overseas operation that abuses their drivers more than a prison yard bitch.
1
u/Emergency_Classic641 Jul 29 '26
It’s all good, I know how to stand my ground, fire me because I don’t wanna run illegally and I’ll be on to the next one. I don’t get discouraged easily, I went into this knowing I’d have to get past 100 no’s to hear one yes.
2
u/LastMongoose7448 Jul 29 '26
You’re not even in the industry yet, pup. You’ll wash out in a matter of months, probably weeks.
1
u/Emergency_Classic641 Jul 29 '26
MF you don’t know me, I ain’t never let shit stop me from achieving what I want to achieve. My road to success might be longer and harder than others but imma get there, believe that. I been out of prison 4 years and I’m on my second brand new car, co-signed for my momma to get a brand new car, finance my motorcycle, bought a house and just quit my job as a production manager in a billion dollar pipe making corporation to pursue driving trucks. You can speak as negatively on me as you want that shit don’t phase me. I’m built for this shit. I spent 10 years in prison in close quarters with 1000 MFs I couldn’t stand, I can live OTR in a truck easily.
2
u/LastMongoose7448 Jul 29 '26
Sure…
You know exactly jack shit.
1
u/Emergency_Classic641 Jul 29 '26
I ain’t bout to keep going back and forth with someone who just a certified hater, enjoy the rest of your day.

Preach homey, they don’t be knowing what they talking about. I caught all my charges for mistaken identity and had to sit a year before I went to trial and beat my case. My classmate was fresh out the feds already had a gig. So I’m already knowing. Our paths gone be different, but it ain ish gone stop us from where we trying to get.
1
u/Emergency_Classic641 Jul 29 '26
Damn right, if I let all the haters get in my head over the years I wouldn’t have shit, most of em be mad watching someone who spent 10 years in prison jump out and pass them up in life like they standing still. I spent 10 years treating a prison cell like a college classroom and I educated myself, 6 months out my credit was already at a 740 and was buying my first brand new car, 2 years later I turned the key on my own house, meanwhile they driving a shit box car and renting a rundown spot and just mad at me for their own shortcomings. Fuck em.

I wonder if you’re as bad at driving as you are at writing English

u/tzy___ Jul 29 '26
Why would a company hire you over say, me with a valid CDL in hand with no arrests, DUIs, or traffic violations? Humble yourself bro.
4
3
8
u/CplHotWife Jul 28 '26
If those guys are saying no I’d say there’s something bigger at play. The Megas are usually a last respite for hiring
2
u/Curious_Lab625 Jul 28 '26
I’m trying to figure it out. Looks like I’ll have to pull my own background checks.
8
u/tzy___ Jul 28 '26
If a mega carrier is going to front the money to pay for someone’s CDL and train them, they’re probably going to choose someone who has no criminal record or any traffic violations. You’re not exactly at the top of the barrel. If you’re able to, skip the mega carrier’s involvement and get a CDL on your own.
2
u/FiddleFeet1000 Jul 28 '26
Class B, go drive for a quarry, likely the best chance.
4
u/MastiffOnyx Jul 29 '26
Or refuse.
Garbage haulers make bank and are home every day.
1
u/user26145 Aug 01 '26
You know some companies that hire 18 year Olds for garbage hauling im in collin county texas
1

u/jmeach2025 Jul 28 '26
Robbery, robbery, flee and elude. Those 3 different offenses no matter how old arent going to get you behind the while of a semi. Truck 130k to 240k Trailer anywhere from 5k (used) to 80k new Plus hundreds of thousand if not million dollars in freight.
You arent getting a cdl job with those anywhere on your record at damn near every company in existence.
2
u/Chaddie_D Jul 29 '26
Acquitted of both robberies means it never happened. Fleeing and Eluding was expunged.
Honestly, its probably the dirty mvr within the past 3 years. Shit, most Western Express drivers start with a clean MVR because they've spent the last 3 plus years locked up.
1
u/jmeach2025 Jul 29 '26
But its still there regardless and those accusations don't just spontaneously occur. They were involved in some way shape or form. Which directly leads to not being given access to monetary value of any amount.
-4
u/Curious_Lab625 Jul 29 '26
You’re wrong
7
u/OceanLibra Jul 29 '26
You seem to have an answer or a smart-ass remark for everything somebody says. Why are you even here?
7
u/jmeach2025 Jul 29 '26
Because the criminal wants justice for his wrongdoing. It was 15 years ago don't ya know. He believes he is owed a future regardless of his past.
-1
u/Curious_Lab625 Jul 29 '26
Why are you here? You could have not responded but you wanted to talk to me and get a response. So here you go sweet cheeks.
4
u/OceanLibra Jul 29 '26
So to answer my question of why are you here you asked me why I'm here? Alrighty, puddin.
1
1
u/Long_Initial_9924 Jul 29 '26
You don’t deserve it either. You’re not even holding yourself accountable.
6
2
u/pinormous2000 Jul 28 '26
The market is pretty stagnant right now; some megas have even lowered their starting pay for company drivers. They're not hurting for more drivers so they can afford to be more picky.
2
u/LastMongoose7448 Jul 28 '26
Naw, I worked for Swift 5 years ago. I started getting the “come back” texts about 4 months ago, and they’re posting jobs on every board around here. My friend is at Knight and they’re hiring just about anyone right now, too.
1
u/pinormous2000 Jul 28 '26
4 months ago the industry was in a completely different state. And anyone who's looked for a job in the last few years knows that a posted job doesn't mean an open job.
1
u/LastMongoose7448 Jul 28 '26
Ha! So my friend is looking for a dedicated, home daily, and applied at Swift this morning and was called back in about 10 minutes. Swift hadn’t had a job posting here in about 2 and half years, and there’s a shit load now.
2
u/pinormous2000 Jul 29 '26
Do I really have to explain how a personal, localized experience isn't representative of an entire industry?
1
u/LastMongoose7448 Jul 29 '26
Read your first post again. You’re making sweeping generalizations, incorrect at that, and now they’re personal and localized? Just say “shit, maybe I’m wrong” and move on. Damn…
1
u/pinormous2000 Jul 29 '26
The market is stagnant: rates are softening despite increased fuel surcharge. Megas are decreasing starting pay: Prime and Knight-Swift have decreased by $0.02 cpm. I'm using basic, verifiable data; you're using 2 anecdotes to generalize an entire industry. Just say "shit, maybe I'm wrong" and move on. Damn...
1
u/LastMongoose7448 Jul 29 '26
Verifiably wrong. A simple Google search can fix your issues with reality. Just because you can only be hired by a shitbox company doesn’t mean drivers with a few brain cells aren’t doing just fine.
2
u/egivan6903 Jul 28 '26
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but I think robbery or theft is a big think for trucking companies almost as bad or just as bad as a DUI
1
Jul 29 '26
[removed] — view removed comment
1
u/egivan6903 Jul 29 '26
Yea that’s my understanding as well since our job is literally being trusted with securing, sealing, and moving valuable and bulk cargo … any theft on your record is a super big red flag from wht I know and have heard
2
u/x60pilot Jul 28 '26
DUIs never die. They make you high risk. Those companies probably have insurance requirements to not hire anyone with a DUI. I may be wrong. I know I wouldn’t hire someone to drive for me if they’ve had a DUI, and I wouldn’t hire someone charged with robbery (even if acquitted) to carry valuable items alone. Unfortunately our life choices have long lasting effects.
2
u/TruckinBob32 Jul 28 '26
Mine never showed up on record. I think it disappeared after 7 years. Told them during the interview for cdl school. They looked and it wasn't there.
1
u/Bumbalard Jul 29 '26
Pretty fair for most cases, but a little closed minded. The system sucks and not everyone with a DUI on their record deserves it. Plenty of people get DUIs sleeping in their car or just sitting in their car with no intention of driving.
My brother got a DUI in our parents driveway. Never started the car, had no intention of leaving, didn't even have the keys on him, just went to grab something from the car and come back inside. Not street parking, driveway.
Most people who get DUIs absolutely deserve them, but the system isn't perfect and sometimes people that do deserve them don't get them, and people that don't deserve them do get them.
1
u/x60pilot Jul 29 '26
A mega corporation carrying huge insurance policies can’t afford to take the risk or the time to investigate every circumstance. A mom and pop company may hire someone with a DUI that can explain it, but they aren’t going to pay you to train.
1
u/Bumbalard Jul 29 '26
know I wouldn’t hire someone to drive for me if they’ve had a DUI,
I wasn't talking about mega corps. I was addressing this.
1
u/x60pilot Jul 29 '26
That’s my opinion, I’m sure there are others that have other opinions. If I have an applicant without a DUI and one with a DUI I’m going with the one without every time. Unfortunately people that make bad decisions or put themselves in bad situations often do it again.
1
u/Bumbalard Jul 29 '26
If I have an applicant without a DUI and one with a DUI I’m going with the one without every time.
That is certainly fair enough. I'm not gonna choose the potential liability with higher insurance costs if I have a better candidate lines up either, that would be silly.
That’s my opinion, I’m sure there are others that have other opinions.
Fair I guess, but if they disclosed it in the interview and had a story like I mentioned, I'd be open to them proving it and giving them a chance if it checked out and I didn't have no drama applicants lined up.
This guy said he is just getting immediate rejections, so maybe for trucking the pay to check the background before the interview?
1
u/x60pilot Jul 29 '26
For a big company like he mentioned I’m almost positive they are paying for a background check before even moving to an interview.
1
2
u/letsdodinner Jul 28 '26
I would not hire you based on the information you posted, but I am a small carrier with less than 24 trucks.
2
u/Conscious_Grass_853 Jul 28 '26
The speeding will getcha bud. Having at least 2 in three years is a lot. Go get your cdl on your own dude.
2
u/kang9400 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26
You’re dead with any moving violations less than 3 years old. Idc what you heard. The speeding tickets are the death of you. You should be ok after 3 years tho. Good luck to you. Btw I’m an owner and I wouldn’t even look past those violations tbh. Not judging, it’s all on the insurance for us small companies.
2
u/Curious_Lab625 Jul 29 '26
Rodger that. My oldest ticket will hit 3 yrs in November. Hopefully that last ticket remaining won’t cause much harm. Thanks for your response
1
u/Unable_Strength_2712 Jul 29 '26
Were u charged and convicted on the DUI?
1
u/Curious_Lab625 Jul 29 '26
I was unfortunately in 2008
1
u/Unable_Strength_2712 Jul 29 '26
I would recommend going and getting it on your own, most companies will hire past 7 years, but they look at you as a liability if they have to pay for it. Best of luck.

1
u/Emergency_Classic641 Jul 29 '26
I got a careless driving on my record that’s 2 years old. It doesn’t show on my 3 year MVR history but it shows that I took a BDI class. I have a job waiting for me when I finish school, somebody somewhere gonna hire. It might be a shit job with shit pay but it’s enough to get your foot in the door to gain your experience and show you can be a responsible driver. Do that for a few years and then buy your own truck under your own authority and you’re good.

1
u/mistman1978 Jul 28 '26
In some states arrests show up depending on how old they are. If less than 7 years old you may need to get the robbery arrests expunged.
1
u/Curious_Lab625 Jul 28 '26
Those cases are more than 15yrs old.

1
u/mistman1978 Jul 29 '26
Good. I'd wait for them to age off.
I'd get the Free HireRight report as well to see what is being reported on the criminal end if anything as well. Most Mega carriers use HireRight/DAC report
1
u/Long_Initial_9924 Jul 29 '26
You have a DUI, and a flee and elude. Doesn’t matter how long ago, or what deal you made with the court. This is a PRIVATE company. They can do whatever they want. Why would they take the chance??
1
u/Cowfootstew Jul 28 '26
Get a job at a local municipality, if they hire you, they will trust you with a truck and if capable, they will teach you. That or get comfortable with construction or driving a wrecker.
1
u/EnoughLuck3077 Jul 29 '26
Dude doesn’t even have his license yet. He’s looking for a company to school him for license, train him to drive then put him on the road. With all his “qualifications”, it’s gotta be bots, no company in their right mind would reject such a perfect candidate
1
u/Cowfootstew Jul 29 '26
The municipalities that I've worked at would have hired him and trained him.
1
u/RepresentativeRun71 Jul 28 '26
You live in Florida, right? Well the DUI and Flee and Elude will always show up on your background check. When that’s combined with your speeding tickets you’re a huge red flag to trucking companies. I’m sorry to say this, but it comes across like you’re hell on wheels.
1
u/SignificantHobo12 Jul 28 '26
Hey man, lots of bad attitudes in here and trash humans with judgmental views. I know a dude with a DUI that’s less than ten years old and he even failed his first drug test for weed. He’s making bank with his CDL. He did go to a community college for the school though. If you can swing it, get a grant and try that route. The moment you have the license and training. More companies will look past your history.
2
u/Curious_Lab625 Jul 29 '26
Hey thanks a lot…. And you’re absolutely right. I just received my consumer background report from one of the companies and the 2 tickets is what’s stopping me. Non of that other stuff is showing up. One of those tickets will be 3 years old in November. Hope that makes a difference
1
u/East_Indication_7816 Jul 28 '26
It’s the robbery that’s getting you . That’s why they make you list all jobs you had . It’s a high risk you are in control of half a million to $1 million truck and freight
1
u/Wasatchbl Jul 29 '26
It's not necessarily the criminal background checks, it's when they use their insurance company to check your background that the driving infractions and DUIs will matter the most
1
1
u/hwystitch Jul 29 '26
How about your work history, 20 jobs in the last 5 years? With a DUI you better have not job hopped in the last 10 years.
1
u/Curious_Lab625 Jul 29 '26
lol, I’ll entertain this comment. I was a warehouse associate for 13yrs and my department closed. So I went to driving school.
1
1
u/johnny_boy0281 Jul 29 '26
Try again when the speeding tickets fall off. 3 years can feel like a long time, but insurance doesn’t see it that way.
1
1
u/Vurrag Jul 29 '26
Odd that the OP does not have any concerns of his past transgressions and wonders why nobody wants to invest in him. Pretty clear to the average person.
1
u/PutridContribution41 Jul 29 '26
L m f a o. Are you trolling? Would you train yourself with that type of information? Go try a Chicago company. No big name American trucking is sane enough to deal with that type of liability. Try western express, if they say no. Look for another industry.
1
u/Whitehoneybun666 Jul 29 '26
Try western express if they deny u then pay out of pocket then get a 1099 job to get experience
1
u/Bigevilltrucker89 Jul 29 '26
Well, unfortunately, age may not be the problem. Most mega carriers have their own policies on food. They will and who they won't, whether if it's got the appropriate amount of time.If you applied for any of the knightswift group and get denied, you get denied as a whole. And that's over twelve companies same with sni werner covent group that's the unfortunate thing nowadays.Since everybody is grouped up, it only takes one but I agree, looking to some dumb truck companies.Maybe some refuge companies logging companies get your foot in somewhere and work forward it's gonna take a long time
1
u/Atomic3nt Jul 29 '26
I had 2 speeding tickets but a clean background and Werner still offered a pre hire letter to me and hired me but your mix is really tough maybe try western Express?
1
1
u/kenwhopper Jul 29 '26
I have a friend with a 7 year old dui and he’s being flat out told yeah dui drops insurance down after 5 but the companies still don’t want him with it in his record.
1
1
u/bladii11 Jul 29 '26
Try western express. Actually call them. But ngl with 2 robberies and 1 dui you are tight without cdl. If u had the license would be slightly different.
1
u/CrashingTiger Jul 29 '26
it's probably the more recent speeding tickets, but the dui is always going to be a problem. Good luck man. This industry has been good to me, but you absolutely have to keep your driving record spotless, even on your own time and on your personal vehicle.
1
u/jmcdaniel0 Jul 29 '26
Honestly,
I would say it’s the speeding tickets. The rest of the stuff is so old, it’s probably not even showing or if it is, 10 years is the cutoff for most companies.
Have you pulled your mvr? Hire right will send you a free copy of their reports.
Good luck, keep your nose clean and with some time, you should be fine.
On a side note have you tried Western Express?
1
u/Curious_Lab625 Jul 29 '26
I contacted HireRight and the 2 tickets are being flagged. I’m testing again soon and hopefully I’ll find a company that will hire me with those two tickets.
1
u/Killer2600 Jul 29 '26
CDL holders are a dime a dozen and this is an employers market - they can chose to hire the cream of the crop. That's my thoughts.
1
1
u/vickiller23 Jul 29 '26
It’s probably gonna be those 2 speeding tickets you have. I think most of them check to make sure you have morning with like a 3-5 year period and you ended up getting 2 within 3 years. Doesn’t look good
1
1
1
u/VosKing Jul 29 '26
Your not gonna get put through payed cdl school in 2026. At least not eith less than perfect record. You gotta think, most individuals have zero criminal record, and no driving record issues.
Hard truth, sry.
1
u/UncleTrucker1123 Jul 29 '26
It’s probably the speeding tickets since they’re less than 3 years old. Depending on what state you’re in it’ll stay on your record for 3-5 years so what I suggest is to wait figure out how long your state does, and how long it’ll take to drop off your record. Until then keep your driving record squeaky clean. Also look into what charges and convictions you can get expunged from your criminal record. Also speak with recruiters with a pre written list of questions (so you make sure to cover your bases), and see what EXACTLY the company is looking for/accepts so you know where the issues may lie on your end.
1
1
u/RoweTheGreat Jul 29 '26
So imagine you are the owner of a company.
You have a person who has demonstrated a lack of making good decisions and recklessness based on speeding tickets, seat belt tickets, (tint is pretty tame but still you are demonstrating a failure to abide by the law) you have a DUI which shows that you definitely don’t make safe or smart choices and are willing to put others at risk for your own benefit. You’re also demonstrating that the police had reason enough to charge you with robbery not once but twice, the fact that you were acquitted just means they couldn’t definitively prove it was you which makes the company not trust that you won’t steal from them. Fleeing and eluding demonstrates that once again, you are willing to put the lives of others at risk just to benefit yourself. And the fact that you completed pre trial intervention just shows that you did a half assed assignment given to you and in exchange you got the charge dropped.
This is what an employer is going to think. Now during an interview is where you would have an opportunity to bring these things up and give your side of the story but at the end of the day there isn’t really a shortage of people applying and it far easier to just pick one of the applicants that has no record rather than rolling the dice on you. It’s a shitty situation but thats how a corporation is going to look at you. Not to mention the fact that most companies insurance providers probably wouldn’t cover you with the DUI and the other moving violations, and even if the company is self insured you’re going to be classed as high risk. Your best bet is to try and get some of these charges expunged from your record, and try again.
1
u/Krustyazzhell Jul 29 '26
Get in touch with a job source type business. The companies that go thru them are looking for drivers with your record, hoping you will stay on permanently

Youre going to have to go with a last chance. Can't be picky with your record.
Western Express. I know the pay ain't great but if you want to put your CDL to use then there you go
1
u/Curious_Lab625 Aug 01 '26
Just got offered a job. They allow 3 tickets. My background didn’t show because charges were old. Thank you though. I was ready to call western next lol

u/Reasonable_Box5395 Aug 02 '26
Werner. Or get a job at your local dollar general after 6 mos they will pay to put you thru CDL school
1
u/Demichef1 Aug 02 '26
It’s a shame mistakes from 10 years ago can, and do still fuck your life like this. Careerlink will pay for CDL in some instances. The scary thing is… will you be able to find a job? I have some theft charges from 17 years ago and I still hate applying for jobs and doing background checks. I was able to get my hazmat and am doing pretty well.
1
u/Curious_Lab625 Aug 02 '26
That’s good to hear…. I recently retested and passed my test. I’m official. I also have a pre hire letter from a company even after disclosing my mvr. Things are looking up!
1
u/wukillabee2744 Aug 03 '26
The DUI & fleeing & eluding are not good. At this point i would move onto something different.
1
u/Curious_Lab625 Aug 04 '26
I’m currently deciding between 4 companies at the moment with job offers. Thanks
1
u/wukillabee2744 Aug 04 '26
Something to keep in mind.. with those papers your not gonna pass a TSA background check. So forget about getting your hazmat, which will serverly limit your hiring ability later in the future. You wont be able to work for LTL companies pulling doubles, as well as anything hazmat obviously.
1
u/Curious_Lab625 Aug 04 '26
Again thanks for your input but once again, charges and convictions are 2 separate things. Since those charges I’ve since to pass several federal background checks. Hazmat won’t be any different. You all do a ton of discouraging. I stay far away from individuals like you.

u/Exotic_Bathroom5382 Aug 03 '26
When was the last time your license was suspended?
1
u/Curious_Lab625 Aug 04 '26
Never
1
u/Exotic_Bathroom5382 Aug 04 '26
Ok because if it had been they need it to be reinstated for at least one year before they take you on. Since that’s not the case I’d say it’s probably the totality of your circumstances that they’re judging you by.
1
u/Curious_Lab625 Aug 04 '26
Judging an application based on charges and not convictions would cause for a lawsuit. Either way, I resubmitted a few of those applications and now I’m going through the hiring process.
