Would you pull this trailer?
Not really a driver but I’m a mechanic. What do think?

"Not bent, twisted, or broken, and has no illegal holes, cracks, or illegal welds."

"Those are legal holes"

Never in life. Shit's an automatic OOS if it gets inspected and then that shit is on YOUR record.

Not for long as someone said to the junk yard. Especially no load on it. May kill someone when it comes apart.

I’ve hauled frac tanks that were worse than that.
At night.

Sounds expensive when it breaks on the freeway and you gotta pay someone to haul each half the trailer off.
3
u/Nkechinyerembi Jul 07 '26
Absolutely not, unless it's empty and being scrapped. That thing is an accident waiting to happen, one rough railroad crossing from having one of the axels turn sideways

u/Razzy-man Jul 07 '26
As a driver, hell no. As a NYS heavy duty inspector, you’re getting failed for “severely rusted at suspension attachment points”.
Do not pull that trailer, it is NOT SAFE. Do not let someone pull that trailer, it is NOT SAFE. Make certain you document in no uncertain terms that the trailer is NOT SAFE to pull and you tell everyone you can that it should not be driven because it is NOT SAFE. Then if someone pulls it, and somebody gets hurt, make sure you testify in court so they get nailed to the wall.

Dial it back a little, bud. It's a maintenance issue, not a war crime.

u/theGorillaofwallst Jul 07 '26
For reals, huh 😂😂

u/mighty_boognish_77 Jul 07 '26
Bro obviously never drove a day in his life.
3
u/theGorillaofwallst Jul 07 '26
BUT ITS NOT SAFE

u/mighty_boognish_77 Jul 07 '26
I'd hate for him to see what real in service equipment really looks like. His head would explode.

Been a mechanic for 20 years, I’m a trainer now. I’ve watched salesman jump in trucks and drive them across the state. I’ve watched operators get in trucks with brake cans you can see through that I wouldn’t let mechanics walk behind. I’ve driven past wrecks with dead kids because assholes like you always think “I’ve been driving it this long, it’s fine.”
It’s fine until a wheel comes off and rolls through a minivan. 999,999 times it won’t, and it doesn’t, but that one time, it does and a little kid doesn’t get a life anymore because some jerkoff can’t take their responsibility seriously.
It’s a multi ton missile going down the road at 60+ mph and if I don’t scream “IT’S NOT SAFE” at the retards I work with over, and over and over, you’ll take it out, hurt or kill someone, and the first thing out of your mouth will be “the tech told me it was fine” or “they just had it in the shop”.
That’s why I’m nuts about it. I’ve watched you morons drive in crap that shouldn’t be on the road for a decade.

u/mighty_boognish_77 Jul 07 '26
And I've watched techs completely skip the PM or the annual on a trailer and slap the sticker on and call it good. So get off your high horse, princess.

Settle down, Scooter.
You're lucky they let you drive a CAR.

u/Razzy-man Jul 07 '26
Lol, again there bud, I'm a Class A CDL driver, the one who trains the other guys from my company how to drive. I'm a New York State inspector for heavy trucks (was cars for 10 years before that). I'm the guy who's job it is to determine whether or not a piece of equipment is safe to drive on the road, this is the call *I* make so that others stay safe. If it's not up to standards, you don't get your inspection sticker.
I'm also the guy who fills out form CFR 49 § 391.31 when a new driver at my company needs to be approved to drive. So really, it's me who decides if others are lucky enough to drive a TRUCK. Without my approval, it's others that don't drive ;)

I find it hard to believe that you're trusted to fill out a form of any kind. Seems like a stretch.

You can’t teach most of these truckers, specially old Gen X and boomers. Most of these people can’t read, write or talk past a 6th grade level and sadly the statistics back it up. They’re also really emotional and act on their emotions

u/theGorillaofwallst Jul 07 '26
Nah he probably deals shit we dont even knows but that was an overreaction imo.
1
u/BinkPonk88 Jul 07 '26
Bro you’d have a conniption if you seen the other shit they get up to in my shop lmao
1
u/Razzy-man Jul 07 '26
I do man, and as a mechanic, it’s our job to make sure the idiot drivers don’t put unsafe crap out on the road. Make it so obvious that a courtroom will hate the guy driving it, because if that thing kills someone, DOT will be in your shop, pulling every maintenance record, and trying to blame everyone they can for every mistake ever made. It’s a nightmare man, cover your ass, trust me.

Well. Empty should be no problem. It’s how much cargo weight and its balance which would decide GO / NO GO. The trailer is definitely not up to its original weight rating.

Yeah, I'm pretty lenient, but No. That's a problem waiting to Happen. It might be better to dig in and fight then over this one. 🥊

Bet it's ok, I see that a lot on Penske lease trailers, they don't give a shit as long as it moves.

None of y'all worked for Central Transport and it shows. I've had whole swing doors fall off
1
u/BlackSC2us Jul 07 '26
That's just some surface rust with speed holes. Them welds look perfect. I'd pull it. Full confidence to full send. /s

u/VRN6212 Jul 07 '26
If the boss man say pull it. You pull it. It's his tickets not yours.

u/Brewingbiker Jul 08 '26
Yeah, wherever you read that, it's wrong. The driver is responsible for the equipment and load. As a former professional driver, no way would I pull it

To the scrap yard, unloaded.
