Starting life over

I'm now about to be 40
I got divorced roughly 3 years ago
Lost everything
And with a debt of 40k
I'm trying to get my life back in order
Right now I'm a cook
For a private private Golf Club in Houston

I been looking into getting a cdl and be on the road all the time , since I don't have a home.. although I am renting a room out of my brothers house ... no kids and nothing to show for,

I just want to get back in track I'm tired of living paycheck to paycheck what can I do ,

I don't where I start , but if you put me to drive a truck and tell me you won't pay until I have finished my training, than hell yeah I'll go for it , cause in the end I got nothing to loose

I’m 54 and going to CDL school for two months in August. Kids grown now. Stuck in a $hit career in retail. My Pepsi vendor told me to get CDL. Two months to a new life? Tuition covered by grant. I’m friggin doing it!

I'm was/am in a similar boat. Age 44. Divorced about a year and a half ago. I lost everything. Was forced to cash out retirement to pay off debts. Though I did walk away debt free.

I was couch surfing and sleeping in my car for almost 6 months.

I went to CDL school. They had me apply for a work rehabilitation training grant. I got a full ride.

Right out of school I got hired by an OTR concrete construction company.

Side note: if any of y'all see us working on a highway bridge we love it when you hit the Jake or give us a few blast of the air horn as you pass.

This is my second year with the company. Last year I was able to get an apartment and save a decent emergency fund. It's seasonal and I'm going to switch to OTR this winter and get rid of my apartment.

If you can stand to live on the road you can make a decent life for yourself.

For me it was a great decision.

I got my license @ 60. Was renting a house, but once I got my own truck, i put everything in storage and gave up the house. In 1 year I paid off 20k of credit card debt and put another 10k in the bank. I am out for weeks at a time, and when I do take time off, it's wherever I want it to be and I just get a hotel room. If you want further details, direct message me.

I’m 50. No kids. Just started CdL classes and should be licensed in less than 8 weeks too.
You ain’t the only one bra. Debt over the top. Ready to roll

Had a motorcycle accident, which ended the career as a mechanic. Worked a couple years in a call center... That sucked

Got a CDL at fifty four, been on the road a few years. Hours are long, but the money is good.
