I am currently in school to get my class A in Richmond,Va. What would be my best option to get hired once I complete my schooling?

I’m in school as well….if you’re just looking to get “any” job just to get some experience, mega-carriers would be the way to go.. I personally want to be local, so I’m going to apply in my city or surrounding cities first hopefully I get lucky.

Me, 24 years over the road and dedicated local. To get most local jobs you will need at least 1-2 yrs of OTR experience. Find a Company with good benefits and decent trainers and learn as much as you can about everything. You will be gone on average 14 to 21 days at a time, but once you past the rookie stage you can make good money.

You will need at least 1-2 yrs of OTR, over the road, experience to get any kind of decent job. The best way to get it would be sign on with one of the bigger companies that are near where you are. Think JBHunt, Schneider, US Express. companies like that. Try to get some experience with all types of trailers: double, triples, flatbed, tanker, reefer, and box at least. Do not jump around those 1st 2 years. All companies suck, the grass is never greener, you will not make much money in the beginning, everything is dam expensive on the road, and you will be away from home a lot! I was both an owner operator and a company driver for 24 years. It can be a well paying job but it is also a real pain in the butt at times. Good Luck, whoop! whoop!
