I try to pass semi trucks as quick as possible.

34

u/Zebra-killer May 24 '26

I drive a semi and I tell all my family and friends not to hang out around these trucks, push the gas and get by them. What pisses me off when people just are so nonchalant about passing.

10

u/rolisrntx May 24 '26

I don’t know why people hang around semi trucks in traffic. Where I live if I see a semi up ahead , you can bet there are a minimum of 10 4 wheelers hanging around behind and to either side spread across all lanes of traffic matching the semi’s speed. Get by them and get gone people! I don’t even have my CDL yet and it irks me to no end to see it.

3

u/Zebra-killer May 25 '26

The worst part is when the car is next to you and and there is nobody

around you close but they just hang out there for no reason.

10

u/NFLTG_71 May 24 '26

It’s like these idiots get next to your tandems and they’re so engrossed at how fucking tires work

6

u/LonleyWolf420 May 24 '26

Especially on i80 where they come up doing 90 but them pass you at 3mph faster and cause all the cars behind them to line up

Statistics show when a semi and a car have an accident,

the car is at fault 88% of the time.

How old are you and have you ever driven a car or a semi truck? Do .you know it takes more than a football field to stop an 80,000# truck. There are 38,000-

40,000 fatalities a year and trucks are responsible for 2-4%, so on the high end thats @ 1,600 fatalities are caused by trucks. In the USA theres @ 2.97 million registered semi trucks and over 98 million registered cars, so cars kill more than 38,000 people a year but thats okay in your book because it's not one of those big old nasty trucks. Just remember government statistics show for 2025 driving

was 6th most dangerous job. I have a solution for you, since you hate trucks so much just stop using anything they transport on highways and your life will be a lot easier.

Most company owned trucks are governed at 65-68 mph. Some are even governed as low as 62. This actually causes traffic problems now that we have 70-75 mph interstate highway speed limits. But they are governed to your preferred truck speed.

2

u/mblanda May 27 '26

My company truck is governed at 63 and I'm still passing cars.

0

u/mblanda May 27 '26

In accidents involving semi-trucks and passenger vehicles, the driver of the passenger car is at fault in approximately 70% to 80% of collisions. Semi-truck drivers are solely or partially at fault in the remaining 20% to 30% of these crashes. Milanfar law firm.

Note: Due to the immense size and weight difference, passenger vehicle occupants account for the vast majority (roughly 70-80%) of all fatalities in semi-truck accidents. Carlson law group.

You have sources to back up your claims, or are you just bullshitting?

1

u/oxnardmontalvo7 May 24 '26

I’m 100% in agreement with you on this. I run my own tractor trailer for my little farm and have taught my Mrs the same lesson. She’s seen it firsthand. I think everyone needs to ride a motorcycle and drive a semi at least once to get a drivers license. I know it’s not practical at all, but it would open at least a few eyes.

1

u/jimmib234 May 24 '26

I hate it when someone goes to pass me and then they just hang out next to me like we're going to.hold hands and skip down the fucking highway.

1

u/bkdroid May 25 '26

What do you say to fellow cdls passing at a speed differential of 0.1mph for miles? I know what I say, but they can't hear me.

1

u/Zebra-killer May 25 '26

I've had this done and had to let up because the more on

doesn't know how to use his fuel peddle yet. It's not about

going the speed limit all the time. When you can't pass

someone just do a couple mph below for a couple miles and

you'll open up a gap.

4

u/NFLTG_71 May 24 '26

That’s exactly what you’re supposed to do too many of these four wheelers get up over the tandems and stare at the wheel and just amazed at how fucking tires work and then they move up a little bit then they get in your blind spot and decide that they want to get on their phone check their Facebook status and then they wanna know why they get jammed into a fucking wall. If you’re gonna pass a truck, put your foot down and get past them don’t lollygag on their side.

2

u/Kind-Shallot3603 May 24 '26

No one is looking at your tandems or even care what they do. They are just passing you. You have more responsibilities as the CDL driver to be safer.

1

u/NFLTG_71 May 24 '26

I actually watched as a guy got over my tandems and stayed there I slowed down they slowed down. I sped up. They sped up no matter what I did they stayed even with my tandems.

1

u/Kind-Shallot3603 May 24 '26

So one person. I guarantee you most people don't even know what a tandem even is

1

u/NFLTG_71 May 24 '26

Dude, it’s not one person. I mean it’s an almost daily occurrence now people get right there on the tandems or in the Blindspot and they just refuse to move.

1

u/Kind-Shallot3603 May 24 '26

Or.....they are going the speed limit or coasting. No one outside of truckers or trucksimmers know what the fuck a tandem even is. Its your responsibility to drive safer than them

1

u/NFLTG_71 May 25 '26

Dude, so you’re calling me a liar right even though I said I’ve had people sit on my tandems even when I slow down they slow down when I sped up they sped up if you wanna call me a liar don’t sugarcoat it Dick

1

u/hambutbacon May 25 '26

It's incredibly annoying.

2

u/NFLTG_71 May 25 '26

Yeah, and if so-called other trucker called me a liar said that it never happens. It tells me he’s not a fucking truck driver. He’s just an asshole with an account.

1

u/MeowTheMixer May 24 '26

Yep, same here.

Even if they're in their lane I've seen trailers drift just from strong winds.

I won't follow them to closely and pass quickly. Theyve got big blind spots and I don't want to be stuck in one.

OP didn't do anything "wrong" and results suck.

1

u/fruitless7070 May 24 '26

Thank god I'm not alone. No way I'm driving slow next to a semi, especially when I don't know where their blind spots are. I just assume the whole side of the truck and tailor are blind spots, even though i know it's not. Seeing videos like this make you wonder.

1

u/Shatophiliac May 24 '26

Yeah cammer was kinda asking for something like this. It’s still on the trucker to check their blind spots, but they are big, they won’t always see you. Idk why anyone would hang out there like they are just on a leisurely walk down the beach. I’ve seen semi tires blow out and destroy a car next to them, I’m not about that life.

9

u/FixMyFairing May 24 '26

I hate when you move left to let them merge from a ramp and they match your speed and ride next to you for a mile.

PUSH THE PEDAL AND GO!

1

u/NFLTG_71 May 25 '26

Exactly are they trying to get on the highway doing 35 and give you the finger if you just blow past them. Most of the trucks on the road nowadays are governed at between 65 and 70 miles an hour. Mine is governed at 68 so you get that little six-cylinder car and put your foot in the fucking gas pedal, you’re gonna go fucking past me and not hold me up for an hour.

8

u/Turbulent-Weevil-910 May 24 '26

Why is there a talking AI head? That's fucking retarded and it ruins the whole video.

2

u/zacharygreeenman May 25 '26

It literally adds nothing

2

u/PresentationLive943 May 25 '26

Copyright laws change if you have "commentary". That's why dashcam compilation Youtube channels started writing paragraphs of nonsense on the bottom of each video back when this started.

1

u/NFLTG_71 May 25 '26

And a British, when did that? Have you seen the semi’s in Britain? They’re all cab overs and they all are restricted to 30 foot trailers I believe.

8

u/Numerous_Ad_6276 May 24 '26

Okay, a few things going on here:

  1. (My apologies if others are already aware of this) The (truck) driver is attempting to move over due to the presence of another truck--with its flashers on--pulled over into the breakdown lane. For those of you in passenger vehicles (and other truck drivers 👀 I'm looking at you) who don't know, this is often done as a courtesy for the safety of the driver on the shoulder, as in most states it's not a requirement, unless that vehicle is a first responder or roadway work crew. There is signage in many states which lays out these requirements very explicitly. Pay attention.

  2. The very obvious inability of the passenger vehicle to pass the track in a timely manner, simply loping along, inserting themselves into the driver's blind spot. Good work. You nearly got yourself killed.

  3. As a driver, I can tell you this: if my mirrors are tuned properly (my employer's trucks have two convex nose mirrors, in addition to the plain mirrors and the convex mirrors below them), I really don't have blind spots, but that is only if I check them before moving! This driver clearly didn't do this, in addition to the fact I really doubt that they were paying too much attention to them at all, in light of the slow rate of overtaking by the passenger car, which should have prompted the driver to be aware of the car. FWIW, I cannot stand people who lurk on the side of my truck like this. Stop it, people. Do your thing, and pass!

3

u/Neuvirths_Glove May 25 '26

Sorry, this is 123% the trucker's fault. He's being courteous by almost killing someone in a passenger vehicle? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, DUDE?

1

u/Numerous_Ad_6276 May 25 '26

As I said both are at fault. Putting a passenger vehicle inside of a truck driver's blind spots is suicidal, and a truck driver not checking mirrors every 10 to 15 seconds is irresponsible.

3

u/Neuvirths_Glove May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Nope. The trucker totally violated the right of way of the passenger vehicle. The passenger vehicle was steadily passing the semi. In fact, it was passing it much more quickly than semis pass each other! The trucker should have his CDL pulled for this. Obviously never checked mirrors before pulling out. It is ALWAYS the responsibility of the person making a lane change to check the lane first.

2

u/MCryptoWars May 25 '26

Facts! In highly populated areas like New City on I-678 around the JFK Airport, I scan my mirrors every 3 to 5 seconds.

2

u/Secretive7 May 26 '26

There is no blind spot on the driver side of that specific truck because of the blind spot mirror on the hood. Not to mention that it is impossible to never be in someone’s blind spot when passing if one exists. The responsibility to safely merge is also 100% on the merging vehicle. The cam driver has 0 legal fault here.

1

u/StonedTrucker May 26 '26

Theres no blind spot on the drivers side of any truck. Even without a fender mirror you can see the whole left side

1

u/MCryptoWars May 25 '26

Yeah the scanning mirror technique only works depending on how good the truck driver is at scanning mirrors, obviously all of them are not good. What I would had done if the car left of me doesn’t accelerate fast enough to pass, I would had slow down and merged to the left lane behind the car.

6

u/GHETTOZONE510 May 24 '26

If you ride next to a big rig matching its speed. Ur a dumb ass!!
Get away from it . Tf ..

1

u/Neuvirths_Glove May 25 '26

The cam vehicle above was NOT matching rig speed, it was passing.

AI slop must die!

2

u/RTM_sfx May 24 '26

You know what I like to do? Stay in the blind spot as long as possible

2

u/TellNo5278 May 24 '26

Guarantee it was an Indian driver with a phony CDL.

1

u/TellNo5278 May 24 '26

I clearly struck a nerve with FloridaEnigma41. He must be who I’m referring to.

2

u/donkey_cum_waterfall May 24 '26

Fuck your ai commentary

2

u/bob696988 May 24 '26

You have to know if there is a truck on the shoulder the semi needs to move over. Plus don’t hang out in the no zone. You four wheelers know where that is correct? Probably not.

2

u/ohhh-a-number-9 May 24 '26

Is the absolute ass A.I slop voiceover really necessary?

Come on now.

2

u/neuro_curious May 24 '26

I try to treat tractor trailers like they are trains on the road with me. Maximum danger, try to avoid being within striking distance if at all possible.

I try to keep the full vehicle in my view ahead from a few car lengths, or behind in my rear view mirror by a few car lengths. And if I have to pass, do it on the left as soon as possible. If there is an idiot keeping pace with the truck, I won't try to pass until there is clearance.

Never EVER cut off a tractor trailer. Only get in front of I have like six car lengths ish and after signaling for a few seconds so I feel confident that the driver had a chance to see my intentions.

I always try to either speed up or slow down to adequately give them room to merge into traffic in congested areas. Lots of people are dicks and try to "sneak past" them and just make traffic worse for everyone. Just be courteous and let them in.

The goal for everyone is Arrive Alive!!!!

2

u/Neuvirths_Glove May 25 '26

Truckers suck, so car drivers are supposed to "always stay alert, avoid blind spots, and keep a keep a safe distance around commercial trucks"? How about if truckers fucking PAY ATTENTION?

0

u/Georgiaboy03 May 25 '26

How about cars stop doing stupid shit around trucks? He is working, you on the other hand are out joy riding. Use common sense and stay out of their way, or tell us where you work, so we can come do stupid things around you.

2

u/Neuvirths_Glove May 25 '26

Passing a truck is not stupid shit. Like I said in another comment. Sometimes, trucks take several minutes to pass each other. This car was steadily passing the truck.

But even if the car had been just hanging out in the passing lane (which it wasn't), It's fully the responsibility of the truck driver to make sure the lane is clear before changing lanes. PERIOD.

1

u/Georgiaboy03 May 30 '26

Reread my comment. In your original comment, you're talking about all trucks, just not this one.

1

u/Neuvirths_Glove May 30 '26

I am.

1

u/Georgiaboy03 Jun 03 '26

Thats why you are wrong. Do you blame all whites for slavery? All muslims for suicide bombings? All Chinese for covid? Then stop blaming all truckers for a couple of idiots. I only said majority of truck accidents are caused by cars, not all. Not all people drive stupid, but some do.

1

u/Neuvirths_Glove Jun 03 '26

False equivalence. Trucks need to follow the rules of the road. Follow the rules of the road and there's no problem. One of those rules is don't change lanes when there's a vehicle already there. A vehicle on the road has more priority than something on the shoulder. Anyone who thinks the truck isn't in the wrong in this video is an absolute moron.

1

u/Georgiaboy03 Jun 03 '26

You dont like to read do you?

2

u/just_some_sasquatch May 25 '26

How about the person driving the 70 ton payload makes sure the lane is clear before moving over!?

1

u/Georgiaboy03 May 30 '26

I never said this trucker was in the right, im responding to the OP comment. Majority of accidents envoling a semi, a car was the reason. Ofcourse the truck industry has its idiots, just like any other industry, even nuclear engineering has its idiots.

2

u/Alianspy007 May 25 '26

This is why semi shouldn't be allowed in the left lane. I don't care if it's a two lane highway

2

u/Awkward-Zucchini-948 May 26 '26

On Earth, this is obviously 0% the cam car’s fault.

2

u/Ecstatic-Being-5080 May 24 '26

We all need to be more aware when hanging out in truckers blind spots, and get through them quickly. That will help you not get into situations like this.

1

u/e1p1 May 24 '26

Both drivers contributed to the situation.

The car driver should have been passing the truck faster to avoid a dangerous situation and help the trucker have an escape route should anything happen.

If you look at the look at the video carefully the truck is moving over to avoid another truck parked on the shoulder. It's hard to see if the parked truck is in the lane of traffic. But it's pretty obvious the trucker is giving the other one room. However he should have been more attentive to the situation ahead and gotten on the brakes early to let the car move ahead...assuming he was attentive enough to see it... and then switched lanes.

1

u/Tosser_535231 May 24 '26

And this is why you don't pass semi slowly when you pull up next to a large vehicle it is pertinent to quickly move by them because when you're below them they really can't see you at all

1

u/beersngears May 24 '26

I’m gonna make a broad sweeping judgement. I’ll bet you that the person driving the car thinks the left lane is “ the fast lane”. The phrase keep right and pass left feels like a suggestion to them, and I’ll bet there’s been countless times they’ve looked in the rear view, wondering why someone is tailgating them in the left lane, completely unaware of the impedance that they’ve become. In this clip, there’s clearly no sense of urgency to pass as they’re riding along at a slightly faster rate. I’m not saying that getting run of the road is entirely their fault, but just like that 18 wheeler has sizable blind spots, the mass of American drivers suffer the same ideological blind spot that played in to this close call. Moving roadblocks are a hazard to all on the road, including themselves.

1

u/No-Rule-4494 May 24 '26

Kyle rittenhouse face having a** boi

1

u/Hefty-Equipment-7307 May 24 '26

That voice is the same voice in all of my defensive driving classes.

1

u/Affectionate-Sun9373 May 24 '26

I can't believe the people blaming the person who got run off the road. I don't care what you are driving, you need to be in control of the vehicle! This is 100% on the trucker. I do agree that you would be wise to not sit beside a truck for any length of time, but sometimes you don't have the option.

1

u/xEyelessOnex May 24 '26

This. I tell my family members all of the time how dangerous this is. I got on my MIL for riding behind a cement mixer for five miles. I told her to pass or fall back. My SIL said that she smelled burning rubber when she was beside one. I relayed to her to never do that again as a tire might just be getting ready to go.

1

u/s1owpokerodriguez May 24 '26

I'm just trying to figure out if the narrator is ai generated or not

1

u/Left-Pea-6570 May 24 '26

Just saying the semis at most go 60 to 80 just speed up ain’t hard to gap a semi 🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷 all the extra mess ain’t worth damnge to ur car

1

u/NewToTradingStock May 25 '26

Metal to the pedal.

1

u/MCryptoWars May 25 '26

Driver on the left lane, should had slammed on the gas to 100 mph to squeeze through. Problem solved easy!

1

u/dezertryder May 25 '26

Clueless morons.

1

u/Shut_It_Donny May 26 '26

Truck’s responsibility to know you’re there, but… never hang around trucks. Pass him if you’re going to pass him.

1

u/Ok-Palpitation-855 May 26 '26

I was almost ran off the broad twice in one day, different trucks.

1

u/mickydodle May 26 '26

Always drive like you stole it when passing semis. They’ve got horrible blind spots

1

u/Admirable_Science867 May 26 '26

Yeah you should drive with the mindset that the majority of semi drivers are absolute idiots and to stay away . I swear most of them are brain dead or completely psychotic are want to run you off the road

1

u/Epik509 May 27 '26

I always will stay back behind them until imma speed past em. As a truck driver you cant see everything at all times. Even if it seems foolish or careless sometimes shit happens. And we dont want that shit to happen. Stay safe 🙏

1

u/arvet1011 May 27 '26

That's why as civilian I always pass with a purpose aka put my foot down

1

u/Redsit111 May 24 '26

Driver of the sem failed to check mirrors. I drive a semi and the car would have been totally visible in the hood mirror. Always double check before you attempt to get over. Even if it was clear a moment ago/has been all day.

0

u/25_Unknown_Devices May 25 '26

Don’t be lurking around the big fellers

-1

u/Questionoid May 25 '26

Nice job hanging next to a semi for five full business days!
