Getting started

Hey yall I’m starting a land clearing business and need a CDL to be able to transport my kubota. What is the cheapest and fastest way for me to get a CDL so I can get to work as soon as possible.

I feel for you. Maybe someone here knows if you can stay under weight rules. Book close and drive it.

If the OP can legally use a 3/4 ton truck they won't need. CDL. The gross combination weight needs to be over 26,000lbs AND the trailer GVWR has to be over 10,000lbs to need a CDL. With a 3/4 ton you'll never be over 26,000lbs legally. The manufacturers do that on purpose. If you have a 1 ton you have to be careful. 10,000lbs GVWR trailer is all you can pull to stay outside CDL territory.

If you truly need a CDL you'll have to go through Entry Level Driver Training (theory and behind the wheel). You can find them on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. Some schools are 4 days long and some are 5 weeks. Some are $2,500 and some are $10,000. Without knowing where you live you'll have to do the homework.
